At least that's what I do, I ask if everyone can spacebar, if I'm doing a speedrun. If someone say no, well, no problem.
Well this way works good too! The important thing is asking politely, from the start! Another good thing is ask if people have already done the FP you sre in, so more experienced players can instruct the new ones on how to fight difficult bosses!

I would ask everyone to press space bar.

However if someone said it was their first time, I would wait.

You're choice is simple, watch all the cutscenes, risking a kick... or spacebar through it and run it normally.

If you enjoy, or have yet to see many of the cutscenes, the 'low level' version has it all. Anything below Colicoid wargames is very easily solo'd as a 50.
Unacceptable. You are wrong. The normal run through is WITH cutscenes. the skippers are playing the game wrong.

Is this the fate of a story driven mmo to skip the one thing that makes this game unique?

Bio needs to turn off the option to spacebar in flashpoint.

Should people be forced to skip content just for the sake of speedrun?
This is just a symptom of the identity crisis swtor has, by taking a story driven game and leaving in a endgame WoW like gear grind this was bound to be a source of conflict for players.

There needs to be a bit of give and take here.

If you're running through the FP for the first time, on normal, pre-50, then it should be expected to watch all the scenes. You are playing the game as intended.

If the others in your group are on their 7th alt and shouting space bar then, tough, they can wait 5 minutes for you. They clearly spend most of their day playing the game anyway so what's 5 minutes?

On the other hand if you're doing the HM FPs at 50 you should fully respect that the other players most likely don't want to sit through the scenes for the millionth time. You're wasting their time doing something you should have already done or can easily do by yourself another time.

On a side note, the biggest irony in all of this is 'social farming'. Running through BT 50 times for social rank is the least sociable activity I've ever seen in an MMO. Try 'non-spacing' during a run with 3 other folks that are on their 20th run of the day and see how that works out

Since you can't see who is "holding up" the group, best suggestion I can give to those who want to see the story is to play how you play and the spacebar players can leave if the run is taking too long for them.
Perhaps they will.
Listen to this. I was pugging with my shadow tank the other day. Now in my experiance the TANK is supposed to control the encounters as they are the meat shields and are responsible for mitigating all damage to the group. With that in mind I was so pissed off with one group which the DPS went ahead with out a word and just preceded to kill mobs and such. I suspect because they were in a hurry. The flashpoint was THE BATTLE OF ILUM. it was not one I had ever run before because most of the other ones are on the fleet and only went to ILUM for THE FALSE EMPEROR because thats where the chest slot drops..

ANYWAY...

Being the tank I was scratching my head. Where are they going? I told them I had not done this FP before. Do they just expect me to know where and what they're doing through osmosis? So I left them mid fight and when I got out to the zone in I saw there health bars drop. They sent me a tell and said what gives? I told them you didnt need me your killing the mobs without me. Then I wished them Luck with the BOSSes. Granted filling a tank spot is not hard at all but it was the principle.

PLEASE DONT EXPECT EVERYONE TO KNOW ALL THESE FPS.

Also new folks please make sure you at least have Ventrillo and MUMBLE installed on you computer so you can at least listen to the rest of the group. Alot of times when on BOSS fights actions and events are CALLED OUT and you need these cues to complete the instance. Besides its a great way to meet new people and make friends.

Absolutely correct. If you want a spacebar run then advertise it in general. Since the dungeon finder doesnt have the option for you to choose a spacebar run, you should expect that you will be grouped with people who maybe want to see whatever cutscenes are available. And since its part of the whole selling point of the game, whether or not you want to bypass it, you should be willing to waste a whole 15 seconds per dialogue choice to let them enjoy it like you once did.

If you join a designated spacebar run and watch the cutscenes youre a douche.
If you join a dungeon finder run and expect everyone to spacebar everything, youre also a douche.
If you join a dungeon run, and tell everyone its a spacebar run, youre also a douche. You arent god. You want to set the rules, you set up your group manually. Otherwise you default to the games design and let people enjoy the wild ride that you once rode (and are now bored of - maybe time to run something else).

However, that being said, heroic runs... if even for your group mates, it really shouldnt be your first time running them to be honest. Go run them in normal, if only to find out some of the potential mechanics and layouts. Its not unreasonable to assume that youve run these already, so the default should be flipped about.

How about an option that the group can vote on at the start, a bit like the vote kick option.

one member initiates a vote for "no conversations", group then vote and the option with most votes win. In the event of a tie, you could just set it to "allow converstaions" as standard or implement a "/roll" feature for it.

If "no conversations" win then at the end of the flashpoint, the game calculates a standard set amount of social points but the group gets no dark or light points (coz for that you need to take part in the convs).

So then if you are just farming gear, comms and loot, the "no conversation" vote option would be great.

If you are farming dark / light points - you will have to go through the convs and spacbar through it.

Thoughts ??

i think thats mean to a new player to be honest. I did think maybe this would be fair, but it just lets people steamroller players and make them miss some of those OMG moments that hooked us in when we ran the flashpoints for the first time.

However... i do like it as an actual in game feature. A lot of the choices are played on a dice roll and we dont always like that dice roll (like the time i dark sided everything only to light side the completion and refuse the reward on behalf of everyone - great funny moment to be honest, and requiring people to watch the cutscenes to create the build up to it to be honest). So why not add in a cutscene demolisher roll as well? It works for me. I just dont think its going to work for the people that have to design and write the code/script for the game. They need to keep the suspension of disbelief in a way to make it seem like theres a justifiable <in game> reason to explain the lack of correspondence...
