Oh, hehe, sure enough.

Well, here's some screenies I just took, anyway. You can see how much better the graphics really are:

On my ship. XS FTW!
Voss Arrival
Voss-Ka taxi
Voss Countryside in "Very High" goodness
Texture, lighting and shadow on a Vorantikus
And from the other side - As you can see from the last two, especially, the textures and lighting in this game are actually very good. I think any perceived lack of texture is actually a dislike of the art style, which is NOT GRAPHICS.

Texture and lighting on my character
Urban landscape, Coronet City, Corellia

No, there's nothing wrong with the graphics in this game. I think the problem some people have, once again, is the art style.

EDIT - Grr, stupid photobucket resized my screenies. Anyway, you can still see the texture, lighting and shadows.

EDIT2 - fixed
Allix Crowe - Vanguard Trooper -/- Ethavan Crowe - Smuggler Gunslinger -/- Malrath Crowe - Powertech Bounty Hunter -/- Boslo - Jedi Knight Sentinel -/- Jiao-gen Pall - Jedi Knight Guardian -/- Landen Tanarr - Jedi Consular Sage -/- Vaelyth Kinti-kaar- Sith Warrior Juggernaut -/- Oteln'erose'thu - Imperial Agent Sniper -/- Zandur Tuum - Cathar Knight

Graphics that try to look too real always fail for mer. Because they cant be real! And we notice the flaws over time. I find DDO, and AOC look great but then rub you the wrong way over time.
WoW had wonderful artist, you can not like the graphics because of the cartoon feel. But I always felt that the cartoon character lived in a cartoon world. Everything had weight to it.
Rift should be in here, it had some nice grahics with great shadows and lighting.
SWTOR is above average.

It would be nice if mmorpg were to use graphics like skyrim, bf3, or crysis 2, but then like half the population who play morpgs would not be able to play the game.

The graphics and art style in this game are absolutely splendid except for one thing:

The shadows. They are extremely pixellated in most places and look like something out of Minecraft.

It hasn't really detracted too much from the experience for me though.
Dashto Vant - Arsenal Mercenary - The most dashing bounty hunter in the galaxy.

2 things:
GW2 really doesn't have as good of graphics as it appears. After actually playing it on ultra high, I realized it's just the art style that's exceptional, not the graphics themselves.

I'm pretty sure that some of the pics you used aren't actual gameplay footage....

I think the graphics in TOR are as good as they need to be. Character models and worlds all look very nice, though a lot more variety in character customization would be very welcome.

City of Heroes had a major graphical upgrade a few years back and looks very sharp still, though the polygon counts on characters are a little low.

Final Fantasy XXXIIV or whatever.... who cares? Smurfs and swords the size of bookshelves render the game unplayable even if it was in 4d with google-o-phonic sound.

Graphics only need to be "acceptable". The gee-whiz factor of amazing graphics lasts about 15 minutes and then it is all gameplay.

PS3's and other consoles only appear to have good graphics. They simply do not have the horsepower to compete with a PC. Their only advantage is in screen size and that is why they sometimes "appear" to have better graphics. Their best is reserved for cutscenes and cinematics where the console is just playing a movie from a dvd/blu ray. The console has nothing to do with actually rendering the images, they are just a dvd player at that point.

You have to understand what goes into "graphics". It's a combination of the frame, the texture, the model, the configuration of allowable resources. It goes way beyond this when you start talking about the engine and resources on you own computer.

It really is a pointless conversation. It's easy to say today's graphics are way better than a commodore 64 because the technology has advanced leaps and bounds. When you start talking about graphics over the last 10 years the conversation becomes more objective.

Do you like the art style? How good is your computer? Do you want a faster frame rate or higher details? What are the limitations of the target market?

Its almost silly to post pictures of games and say "omg star wars looks like its from 2008 ."

The question you should be asking yourself is "do I like the graphics and art style enough to enjoy the game?"

You shouldn't be comparing games from a few years ago and saying "star wars sucks because the graphics aren't what I want.". That really achieves nothing in terms of value.
