Why does everyone get so butthurt about language?

Yeah... the profanity filter. Turned off because tons of Dutch words get censored.

And rather unsurprisingly word filters can be easily circumvented with some imaginative uses of full stops, forward slashes etc etc

Also, you have to remember that *some* word filters (depends on the company) can actually interfere with foreign languages as well.

Of course, a word like "Scunthorpe" get censored every now and then (depends on the game), even though it is a proper town in England, having been around for over 900 years (Escumetorp is its original name in Old Norse).

Granted, that is one notable exception... however, i do hate people who try to circumvent the profanity list. There are some words out there that *DO* offend me... The rude slang word for the female privates (hint: rhymes with punt), offends me greatly.

However, i do play with the word filter off... because even simple words with an accidental mispelling suddenly gets censored out (hits for example).

If you repeatedly swear, you are going to my ignore list. If you try to bypass the profanity filter, you get petitioned in my book.

If I have to go on a cussing rant I tend to use the actual SWU wording like Kriff, schutta, kark....because the average person wont know the real world translations off the top of their head ...that and Im on a large RP server so most of the time the words are thrown around by others too in a story like context or more friendly ... the only real place I see the hard core english profanity and insults has been in a few PVP situations, and Im pretty sure those doing the mass profanity were kids anyway

I don't get why people fall back into using curse words or vulgar words in a game. If you get mad at something in game say pvp say it to yourself there is no need to share it with others by typing it out. Using curse words shows a loss of self control, a lack of discipline, and ignorance. You get emotionally charged and your brain shuts off and all that comes out are words that have no business being displayed in a game that teenagers play...profanity filter or not I am for people reporting for this. There are always those people who use spaces or characters that appear similiar to letters to get around the filter anyways. If someone is ignorant enough to type out 'bad' words in the game then they deserve what they get and have only themselves to blame.

Being offended is a crock. It is a cancer killing America and other countries along with political correctness.

the language filter does tend to filter out a lot of normal words as well. Heck even the character creator does it. I tried to make a character named Thejudaskiss (based off the metalicca song) and it was filtered I had to put a dash in the name to get it to work. Thejudas-kiss. And no the name was not already taken it came up with an invalid or illegal name when I typed it in. What it all boils down to is respect...and if people are going to be disrespectful using that sort of language well then they deserve what they get.
