Overleveling

I'd rather have the possibility of overleveling content than be handcuffed into a linear path through the content, required to complete everything before I can advance further.

No I hadn't as I never log off not in a resting area. If it's true then that would be a bug that needs fixing. Do that and give people a proper option instead of removing or altering the rate of rested xp for those who are fine with it.
Mal - Define interesting.
Wash - Oh God. Oh God. We're all gonna die?
Mal - This is the Captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence. So we may experience some slight, turbulence...and then explode.

Not true AT ALL.

You get Rested xp in the following areas -

Cantina's
Fleet
Your Space Ship.

If you dont want rested XP, dont log off in one of these areas.

I skip nothing while leveling, I do every quest, herioc, fp, and space mission atleast once. I queue for WZ while nort grouped. By the time I leave Coruscant I am 8 levels above content, every quest from that point on will be gray to me since I only continue to further the gap as I level. When my Sage hit 50, I was half way through Quesh.
Same here. I hit 50 as I finished Quesh - a "36-37" level range planet. All because I went out of my way to do content while it was level appropriate. Yet by doing Heroics and FPs at their level appropriate ranges, I ended up pushing others further out of range.

One problem: Even when you overlevel you're still "handcuffed" into a linear path, which is part of the problem.

After Quesh, the game became boring until I reached the back half of Voss and Corellia/Ilum where the mobs had finally begun to catch up in level and lethality. I couldn't skip forward, I still had to follow the linear story progression path even though a wet sneeze would kill normal mobs. Ironically, I also ended up missing out on heroic quests and FPs on that character because level 37s-45s don't seem to want to take a 50 along.

I fail to believe the only solution is to purposely "skip" content as some have mentioned in this thread. That's a poor solution.

You get rested XP when you log out from the game no matter the spot.

You get ADDITIONAL rested XP for being in those places while logged on or while logged off.
Dear BW,
Please nerf paper and buff rock. Scissors is fine as is.
Signed, Rock.

It is indeed a good thing that there is a lot of content and alternate ways of leveling, as one can choose to level on flashpoints, space missions, warzones, HEROICs and world/class quests, but in order to keep in line with the content one must restrain himself and skip entire portions of the game. Worst, rested XP being granted everywhere makes you overlevel even faster.

In my opinion, this is not an incentive to PLAY but rather to NOT PLAY. There isn't much challenge at some point and the rewards you get are beneath your necessity.

If you don't like to overlevel like me then all you can do is skip content. Want to try a space mission? one less world quest. Want to try a warzone? two less world quests for you...

Does anybody feel the same? If so, how are you handling with this? Would you like to see a preferences option to turn off rested XP or even tune down the amount of XP you get?
Future game updates (maybe it's in 1.3, but I'm not sure) will allow you to chose where you get your XP from the most when you play (e.g., warzones, missions, space mission, etc) and this should balance out some of the issues because you will not out-level planets as easily with a character that is configured to get the highest amount of XP from PvP or space missions.

If a planet is getting too easy for you - go into the heroic areas and do the harder missions. Some of them are impossible to solo even if you are 4-5 levels too high for the planet. Another thing that I like to do on planets that I have out-leveled is to collect badges for gear for my companions and/or farm materials or gear for my alts. If you stay on a planet that you have out-leveled, your character will basically stop leveling until you move on to a higher level planet. This occurs about 3 levels above the recommended planet level. I find that staying on these planets longer allows me to also send all my companions out (when I have only 3) and just solo mobs companionless. Also, I can level up crafting skills and get all my companions caught up to me before I leave the planet.

There is a lot to explore, and uncovering all the dailies, lore objects, etc. on planets you have out-leveled can be fun as well.

Bioware's strategy seems to be to have more content than one toon needs to level to allow you to take different paths and do different missions to level. I agree with this stragegy because it is an incentive to create alts, which I like to do. Some people don't like this. Some people also don't like Star Wars.
"Uh, we had a slight weapons malfunction, but uh...everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here now, thank you. How are you?"

Explain to me how my character that was logged out for a period of about 24 hours in the middle of Alderaan, had no rested xp when I logged back in then.

Completely false.

I had no Rested Exp, and had to exit the game quickly, with no time to travel anywhere. I left the character logged out in Voss, near the quest where you have to mine the pathway.

I came back to that character later that night (I am talking 6-8 hours later), and I still had NO rested exp. This was only 2 days ago.

You certainly DO NOT get rested exp if you leave your character outside of the area's I previously mentioned.

If you're overlevelling, it means that you're doing a good job. You're now free to skip plenty of quests without feeling bad about the rewards you miss. Unless you wanna do it for flavor sake. And if you're decent you'll be able to solo those Heroic 2s for yourself.

Is it a worthy opponent you want? Burn straight down the center of the planet and just take the story on its own until you arrive somewhere with a bit of struggle. And then PvP occasionally has a few good adversaries (shame that for every competant player in pre-50 you get 20 hopeless inbreds).

Is it level 50? I always get rested XP no matter where I log out.

It's been real but the game just wasn't worth the sub for me anymore.
