They only reason it got easier is because "the majority" of people on the forums complained about the difficulty. While in reality, the real majority didn't mind and actually enjoyed the challenge, myself included. But only a very small vocal minority posts on the forums and Blizzard in all their wisdom decided to listen to them.

Thanks to them, BioWare got it's ideas for how the game should be run from the new, easier WoW.

WoWs biggest sub spike was in WotLk.

The last MMO I played seriously was EQ1.

I love how fast you can level in this game and that most of the "grind" is doing quests and not killing the same monsters over and over.

What I dont like is not having 30+ man guild raids to take down a single boss. Not having unique armor and weapons that only a couple people have, in swtor everyone seems to be wearing the same stuff.

(I will NEVER make the claim I am even close to the best). I appreciate the efforts that were taken to make this game and it might not be perfect, but it is great game in it's own right.
I'm not sure about spoiled.
But gameing has changed and If I'm right people who played EQ back in the day may not have time like they used to, to grind and be penalized at every turn.
Alot of gamers are adults now with real life responsabilities, and dont have time for needless time sink content that is basicaly in game as a time sink , a bussiness plan (Time is money), not because it was enjoyable, it was all about money and time.
People aren't or shouldnt have to tolerate that design anymore,Theres an over 40 thread on the forums proof that mmo's arent about teenagers who can lock the door for hours and hours and pop out for a hot pocket and dissapear another 5 hours.
Not a jab at teenagers either, because alot of those adults are now playing SWtor with their own teenagers lol.

Not to mention that over the last decade we properly also became much smarter and saw much of the time-sinks for what they were and that they weren't actually all that fun when not viewed in a nostalgic light.

I think Archage is trying to do that.

I played WoW since the beginning (And by beginning I mean what the fo*k Im talking about, I came from an universe filled with constant server crashes and Shaman's frost shock one-hitting everyone fighting against unnerfed C'tun so cut me your cute Burning Crusade and vanilla bulls*it stories please, I know what Im talking about) and I find this game pretty amazing. It has nothing to do with being spoiled. Instead, even if I have annual pass, I stopped logging into WoW since SWTOR came into my life. WoW just doesnt feel like it anymore.

I played FF XI for three years and was my first MMO too and I agree with the OP a lot. One thing though I miss is the playing along side other players. As good as the story is I get bored to death soloing quests in TOR. That being said I diffidently don't miss the 3+ hours waiting around shouting just to form a party for every little thing every freaking day.

One thing that turned me off from TOR's endgame was when I was finding myself spamming chat for hours on end just to get one flashpoint done. I was like "I didn't leave behind my FF XI character of 3 years to jump to a new modern MMO just to repeat that miserable FF XI wait time for everything." Hopefully the LFG tool will take care of that, this will be my first MMO I get to use it. I hear all about how great it is, just hope it works like I've heard.

But yeah a modern day FF XI wouldn't work anymore because the MMO world has changed too dramatically. They tried to recreate the grind fest in FF XIV and had the same people responsible for XI make XIV and look at what a train wreck that turned into. It started strong with 650k+ box sells and eventually dropped down to 20k+ subscribers at it's lowest.

Though I am hopeful for XIV 2.0. The new director there plans to feature a LFG tool on day 1 and cross server LFG soon after that. Would be the first time a FF MMO would feature it, 10+ years post FF XI's launch and they STILL don't have a LFG tool. This new director of theirs does seem to know what he's doing. It's actually very interesting to compare how SE reacted to XIV's bomb vs BW with TOR's bleeding subs.

I miss FFXI.

Best class system of any MMO I've played.

Yeah, it was hard and grindy, but still enjoyed it immensely.

I spent literally weeks camping argus without leaving his little cave. Very tiresome, but then again, everytime I got a claim my heart would pound, and when that peacock charm finally did drop the scream I let out almost gave my dog a heart attack.

I don't think TOR players are spoiled, I think they have a different history in gaming. It's a cultural difference more than a moral difference. FFXI was my first, I spent 3 solid years enjoying that game, but I honestly don't think I could put together the hours needed to play a game like that again. I've gotten old, and with the age has come many gaming restrictions.

I have recently resubbed FFXIV as well, which was abysmal at launch but has rely turned things around, and looks to be doing so even more in the coming months. But it's definately giving me my nostalgia fix.

Most other game communities are whiny, but I'll tell you what, I have never have been treated as crappy in another MMO as I was in FFXI (this was before WoW came out).

Do you claim SWTOR players are spoiled because other games are more grindy?
The only thing I see spoiled in SWTOR. Is alot of players seem to think they can't do the heroic missions without a group, even the easy ones. Players constantly looking for group to do the lousy RED MACHINE mission on Korriban. When I did it solo several times. People seem to think they have to do the missions at the level they picked it up and rush through the game. It is quite simple really, if you are having issues dying. Level up a few times to get above the difficulty curve and you can solo anything. I could never understand people who needed a 4 player group for the easiest stuff. The most hilarious thing I ever saw was someone QQing they needed help with their first quest in GW. Killing 4 level ZERO enemies......lol
