Why did they rise server cap?

Why did they rise server cap NOW? Why not at launch? More people on less servers is better. So why open 220 servers and 200 close after 6 months and boost 20. What's the point?

Or those "megaservers". What's up with that? Why now? We could have 20 megaservers at launch and nobody would say a thing about low population by now.

There's someting fishy about that.

I don't think they had the technology back then to have all the people on the screen at the same time. I think they just in the past updates had gotten the engine optimized for more concurrent users everywhere. Especially in 1.3. That's why it took them this long.

I'm sure they thought the game would be bigger than big numbers wise and were saving that move till that happened....ooops.

I don't think they have the technology. Just look at Ilum lagfest.

that's possible, but 220 megaservers? that's kind of funny, if they were aiming SO high.

Aside from APB which I think they only published, this is the first MMO EA had to produce servers for. So they had to work with wha they had at launch...The only reason they added so many servers was because ppl complained about how few there were and queues...Then ppl complained about them not having enough players on them so they changed back...now more ppl are complaining. seems to be all anyone ever does....If ppl would have been patient and waited for the servers to even out then maybe this game could be going somewhere instead of EA/BW wasting their time with all the BS complaints.

Like the billion dollar man, the technology just wasnt available at the time. Technically they arnt that far off the number of servers they intended to have with the number they have made destinations, i just dont think they realised the limitations on the servers before and just threw servers at the problem.

Its just like the xfers. if they could have done them sooner they would have. they just had to build and/or upgrade the tech to make it possible.

It's just that everytime i see MEGASERVERS! the game's already low on population and it looks like cover for server merge. DCUO for example last year.

And what about WoW? They've got enough money and time and do they have megaservers? I'm not sure, but don't think so.

Actualy they (wow) sorta do and they have for years with battlegroups and group finder, they are merging china/korea servers now, they have set battle group to regional and they are making it so that people from different servers merge onto one server to populate areas. If thats due to them loosing subs who knows but the battlegroups for battlegrounds and group finder have made it so the game never feels dead even when you dont see anyone for hours unless your in a main city.

It's just that SWTOR's servers, at launch, had an abyssmally low maximum concurrent population.

In that respect, WoW's normal servers are roughly equal, now, to swtor's 'megaservers'.
Endgame gear grinds are not the way.
