Why do you want it?

What's so wrong with the subscription based model?

Do you think it will be cheaper in the long run?

I just don't get why people other than the game makers would want this type of system.
The most annoying thing about F2P is the item shop, they always try to shove it in front of your face. Constantly poping up and suggesting you to buy some crap. that's the worst. If I want to do that, I'm good with ebay or amazon. I don't need that in my game.

EA owns Bioware and paid for this game. They cares about money. Bioware does not.

Well, I don't want this game to go the Microtransactions route except for "Fluff" items such as mounts or pets.

The reason being is because this game has the potential to be vastly, VASTLY, more expensive to play than at what it is now per month. EA/BioWare may be thinking that they have the potential of making up to 8 times more and that's true since each class has their very own Questline. Could you imagine playing your Sentinel, paying for this months Questline for that Sentinel and then turning around and paying again for the Marauder side. Hold on now, you want to level up that Trooper? How's about another fee first?

Wait, you need that weapon that drops in this dungeon so tack on another fee, but all your characters can run it to get it although I don't see what good a Lightsaber does for a trooper, lol. So with that in mind, this dungeon drops this weapon for your trooper, just a little more of your money.

Guess what? There's new quests, but those cost as well.

Hold it, you can't create that character, so buy another slot.

Don't have enough space? Buy more!

Need more space for your trooper too? We will take that money!

If this game goes that route, I won't play.
It's easier to get forgiveness than it is to get permission

actually that's an interesting point about TCG. It's obvious it's only purpose was to be a tie in to the animated series. The question is who aproaced who about making it. Did Sony go to Lucasarts or did Lucasarts go to Sony and tell them they have to make it if they want to keep SWG running.

I'm sure Bioware cares. If EA isn't making any money, neither is Bioware. If the game completely fails, then EA would probably sell Bioware, or break it down with lots of firing involved.

This actually seems kind of scary the way it's described as similar to going to The Gap. Queued for Ranked Warzones? Well one just popped; will that be credit, debit or Paypal?

$4.99 for a 1000 pack of Daily Comms
$8.99 for 3000 pack of Warzone Comms
ad infinitum...

lol

This just in, LucasArts exists.

There's a reason SOE didn't introduce a F2P model in SWG.
Actually, neither SOE nor LucasArts went F2P with SWG b/c they both knew the end was nigh and they wanted to double-bang the suckers who subbed and TCGed for as long as they could before the corpse went in the ground.

Lets all sit down and calm down for a moment shall we, take a deep breath in, EA are the title owners of bioware thats all true and good, but EA do not control this game to that degree, they might be able to force it out early or push salarys down or staff numbers down because they lower funding but when it comes to this game one company and one company alone says yes or no.

Lucas Arts, aslong as lucas arts owns star wars bioware have the power to run the game as they wish aslong as its allowed by lucas arts.

^This. EA is greedy stacked on greedy or what I like to call Greedy squared. Their greed knows no bounds and quite frankly it shocks me that they are allowed to get away with it.

It's been real but the game just wasn't worth the sub for me anymore.

If Bioware didn't care about money then why did they sell out to EA? The irony is the fact that selling out to EA was the worst possible move in the long term, history has shown that EA sucks every company that it buys out dry and kills it, lets review shall we:

*Original HQ in San Mateo, California, moved to Redwood City in 1998.

*Origin Systems in Austin, Texas founded in 1983, acquired in 1992, closed in 2004.

*Bullfrog Productions in Surrey, England, founded in 1987, acquired in 1995, merged with EA UK and effectively closed in 2001.

*EA Baltimore in Baltimore, Maryland, established in 1996 as part of Origin, closed in 2000

*EA Seattle in Seattle, Washington, founded in 1982 as Manley & Associates, acquired January 29, 1996, closed in 2002

*Maxis in Walnut Creek, California, founded in 1987, acquired in June 1997, folded into Redwood Shores in 2004

*Westwood Studios in Las Vegas, Nevada, founded in 1987, acquired from Virgin Interactive Entertainment in August 1998, merged into EA Los Angeles in 2003.

*EA Pacific (known for a time as Westwood Pacific) in Irvine, California, formerly part of Virgin Interactive, acquired with Westwood in 1998, closed in 2003

*Kesmai (known also as GameStorm), founded in 1981, acquired in 1999, closed in 2001.

*DICE Canada in London, Ontario, started in 1998, acquired DICE fully October 2, 2006; closed DICE Canada studio hours later.

*EA Japan in Tokyo, Japan, closed due to consolidation; moved under EA Partners model

*EA UK in Chertsey, United Kingdom, moved to EA UK in Guildford

*EA Chicago in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, founded in 1990 as NuFX, acquired in 2004, closed November 6, 2007.

*Pandemic Studios in Los Angeles, California and Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, founded in 1998, acquired October 2007 from Elevation Partners, closed November 17, 2009.

*Bright Light, in Guildford, Surrey, formerly EA UK, closed in 2011.
