Well just went to make a character on my servers destination server. My mains name and all acceptable variations are taken. Looks like I'll sit on my own private box in a bit.

If the transfer is forced because they take my server down and I'm forced to change names, I'm pretty sure I'll just cancel my sub at that point.

They stated this:

Hi folks, just wanted to let you all know that we will be opening up more servers today. I also wanted to remind everyone that the opening of origin servers for free character transfers is now in the fine-tuning stage. We will be monitoring server populations and seeing how they stabilize. What this means is that, while we will open up more origin servers today, you're going to see fewer opening up this week and into the next. The weekend will also provide more data for us.

Can you please provide an update as to when the transfers for servers that a player chooses will be available?

Note: I am not talking about the current (6/14/2012) transfers from and to specific and select servers.
I unsubscribed to this game and still have time remaining on it. I am hopeful - probably naive in that regard - that EA / BioWare will make this game the fruitful business venture that it *can be* and still warrant continued subscription. There are other leisure activities in the universe.

Nothing for Space Slug either and that means were probably going to have to wait until next week.

IMO, that means this service along with a vast majority of the game outside the basic leveling experience weren't ready for prime time.

3 live patches to get guild banks, group finder, combat logging, transfer, etc not to mention the rash of bugs in a vast majority of the end-game content.

I can't tell if its simply a lack of understanding of mmo's or what.

I think Bioware majorly overlooked the population problem. Why would it be a good idea to collapse down over 100 servers to about 10 or so? It creates a number of problems.

1. Naming. I know some people could care less about what their character is named, but some of us have built a bit of
a storyline around our names or have made their characters to look a certain way because of their name. This is all
thrown out the window when transfers arrived. Though I was not one of them, many people pre-ordered for the
sole purpose of reserving a name. You've just taught your customers that buying special things for the game and
paying that little extra something is not worth it.

2. Queue Times. I understand the argument that some of you make saying that the queue times will go down once
everyone is transferred and gets settled. Let's think about this though. Don't you think that a 30 minute queue on a
Wednesday night could very well transfer to a 45 minute to an hour queue on the weekends? What about holiday
weekends? I'm sorry, but the time I have to play is often limited and a lot of times, I have maybe an hour time block
where I can get in a few quests on an alt and refresh all my companions before getting off. Plus, I pay $15 a month
to play a game where I could wait for upwards of an hour to play? I'm sorry, but in a restaurant, you wouldn't be
seated and expect to wait an hour before a waiter comes by to take your order.

3. Overcrowded. Though I don't speak from experience, being on a dead server most of my time with SWTOR (we are
talking maybe 70 people on each faction at primetime and going without a PvP queue for as long as 5 weeks), the
rumors I hear of waiting in line on starting planets to finish a quest and such doesn't instill too much joy in me. Not to
mention the unspeakable lag I might encounter.

To be honest, I just think they should of changed the amount of destination servers to around 30. This wouldn't exactly mean hitting heavy to full every night population-wise, but it would be enough people for PvP to continually pop and give a good base for people to choose from for flashpoints, heroics, etc. Now you have other problems to address such as new players coming into the game not knowing about the server mess. "Light" doesn't exactly clarify how many people are on those servers. Room for new players on those mega-servers may be a problem as well.

I apologize for the rant, but the whole "don't transfer if you don't like it" is not a solution.
Hi there. Sorry to hear about items 1 & 2 - clearly not something desirable in any shape way or form. With regards to item 3, the Destination servers are up to about 19 thus far 6/14/2012 @ 12 PM CDT. Have to say that that is closer to 30 than 10 is to 30, so there may be hope yet.
