Gamebreaker on "Merges"

Mergers, Targeted Transfers, who cares? I certainly don't. It will improve my game playing experience and that is really all I care about. Selfish I know, but then it is something I do for entertainment.

Has Bioware made mistakes? Of course they have, but it appears to me that they are trying to rectify those mistakes.

Why is the glass always half empty to many forum posters? They seem to assign evil intent at a drop of a hat. If they really see that much deviousness in the world, weil I'm glad my world is a bit different. I always try to see the glass as half full.

Why does the current transfer process have to be a "cover up" of mergers? They have really been pretty transparent about what is happening. WIll they eventually close down empty servers? Perhaps, but just suppose they are giving people the option to move instead of forcing them so that those that just won't move unless they get to go to a different server, or keep their names, or whatever, can have the option to do so later, whether it is for money or for free.

I will just chalk that up to your bias though.

SWTOR is in deep trouble.
WoW has stabilized at 10 million players.

How you try and conect the two different circumstances is what is full of bias to be perfectly blunt. If WoW was int he same position as SWTOR the topics and content would be similar on that show.

This really boils down to thjis line of argument:

"I know things are bad in SWTOR right now and the hot button issues that are going on right now are not very flattering to the game....but could you please not talk about them? Thanks"
Ow no it had a question mark so it only implys its doomed to fail, but whats this they say

"Much of the staff — 150 employees by Larry Everett’s estimation — were laid off from the BioWare Austin studios including Senior Community Manager Stephen Reid."

Much of the staff aye, bliz get rid of 600 and its because of automation yet bioware lay off 150 staff and put out this statement -

Hey folks, since you’re reading this you may likely have heard that we’ve done some restructuring here on the SWTOR team. Sadly, we are bidding farewell to some talented, passionate and exceptionally hard-working people who helped make SWTOR a reality. Impacting people’s lives this way is always very hard, but we’re ensuring the affected people are treated with dignity, fairness and respect.

Looking back at launch, we all came together and did something historic. We executed one of the largest, most successful and stable launches of any MMO yet in industry history. That is not an easy feat for any development team or company and we are humbled and honored by our fan community’s strong support both at launch and beyond.

Looking forward, the studio remains vibrant and passionate about our many upcoming initiatives for Star Wars: The Old Republic. We still have a very substantial development team working on supporting and growing the game, and we feel we are in a strong position, with your continued involvement and feedback, to continue to build Star Wars: The Old Republic as one of the most compelling and successful online experiences in the world today. There are many strong initiatives planned for cool new content and new features that we’re excited to tell you about in the upcoming weeks and months.

Rest assured that we remain dedicated to delivering a high quality service in SWTOR to you, our fans, and we will continue to support and grow Star Wars: The Old Republic over the weeks, months and years to come.

Thanks,
Greg and Ray

-Bioware laid off 150 employees in on their development team and other key positions. Including Stephen Reid, the public face and intermediary between Bioware: Austin and the press.
-Blizzard laid off customer service reps who's positions were becoming redundant due to various streamlining features and safeguards.

That's why they used the question mark in such a sensational (read: attention-getting) title. It's called journalism.

Well this is the line between good and bad journalism isnt it. All studios lay off people after a game release, most are on contracts for that specific reason. Are all games doomed to fail or even wonder if a game is doomed to fail due to staff being layed off ?

It was a legitimate question that was addressed to their panel during the show.

The funny thing is that every one of them during the show said that they didnt think SWTOR was going to "fail".

I am not sure what to say to people who dont think that questioning the viability of the game considering its current state is not a worth while avenue of discourse on a show solely dedicated to SWTOR.

In todays gaming media I find it a little refreshing to be able to listen and read opinions not tainted by some of the status quo that exists today that glosses over reviews and pats developers on the back regardless of quality of the product.

Predictable.
There were no personal attacks in that reply....and the reason that I'm not discussing the topic is because I don't care what they have to say. It boggles my mind just trying to speak to people here that go off wildly about things they have no idea about, but heard from someone else on the internet.

I'm enjoying the game. I have since day one. I want more, they are providing more. I'm good with that. If you choose to spend your days focusing on the negatives, that is your right. However, I'm not going to visit and support what I consider to be a couple of armchair experts that have no credentials beyond making a web site.

Show me an expert in the field, with experience in game design and I'll read his opinion along with a counterpoint piece from another expert that can contradict the veracity of the first and vise versa. That would be an interesting read, this stuff is just drama on the level of facebook.

Sorry, may not be popular with you but that's how I see it.

You do understand that the game is seeing a HUGE server merge as we speak, right? The talk about the need for server merges was in full swing during that time frame coupled with the layoffs in departments across the board in all departments

You are arguing just to argue now. You are nit picking based on your biases.
