I believe this will only strengthen the game, perhaps even bring back some previous players because now there is actually a possibility of running the content for the majority.
It's fairly obvious that the initial population drop was a symptom of a much larger problem which has not been addressed and isn't being addressed any time soon.

For a while pops will stabilize, and then when people realize they still don't like the game with people (which is why the initial surge of players left anyhow) they'll start to drop again, hopefully they'll realize this and prepare another wave of transfers for *when* that happens.

People didn't leave because of "minor grief with bugs" they left because of a lack of basic mmo features, lacking (too easy) content, and a terrible gearing system that is still pretty terrible to this day (you can completely skip acquiring columi and jump right into hard modes with recruit gear on). It's a pretty poor system, compounded by a lack of population, and server merges are a bandaid on a gaping wound.

Server merges are coming; there is no denying that. Sure, BioWare is not going to call the free transfers being offered for Star Wars: The Old Republic the start of server merges, but realistically that’s what they are. Our whole panel agrees; however, it also agrees that server merges are a good thing. The server populations are spread way too thin. In fact, it was spread too thin the week after launch, and that’s when the game had hit its current peak. The most frustrating issue is not that BioWare is doing servers merges, but how it is handling them. Justin Lowe sees no other good way to move the situation forward, but Larry Everett, on the other hand, is extremely disappointed. He said, “Out of all the ways you could possibly handle server transfers [...] the way BioWare is handling them is the worst.”

To find out more about Larry’s frustration, the exciting updates coming to SWTOR in update 1.3, and Gary Gannon‘s impersonation of Ed Park tune into the show today. We have three media personalities — Gary Gannon from GAMEBREAKER, Justin Lowe from Darth Hater, and Larry Everett from Massively — to tell us what’s what in the world of Star Wars: The Old Republic on our forum called The Republic!

I agree with them so much. Listen to it, because they bring up critical issues that most people are denying.
Honestly?

I really have no desire to listen to a bunch of arm chair quarterbacks telling me how they could do it better....and they are wrong. This has been an absolutely smooth process, is already demonstrating its effectiveness, and players are reporting positive results.

They can take their un-invested, unaccountable opinions elsewhere. After the whine-fest I had the misfortune to witness on these boards yesterday I'm pretty much fed up with this silliness.

I enjoy this game. I am going to enjoy it even more. I hope that allows them to sleep at night. ;p
May the Schwartz be with you....

Whilst i like gamebreaker and the republic show its been a very negative show for quite a while now. Gary does do some great shows but is ultra negative when it comes to swtor, he was the one who proclaimed the jesus patch and over hyped it up the kazzoo, he also loves to name the republic shows in a negative way with swtor fail etc etc and spent about 10 shows on illum ?????. Justin complains about everything yet has the biggest swtor site going, larry never shuts up about chat bubbles and even came up with the most insane xfer idea ever which follows as this-

Create a new server(s) and have everyone xfer to those so they keep there names.

Now does anyone else see the flaw in his genius plan, well if you cant spot it after using your brain for 10 seconds your fail. The only people who that would work for is the 1st batch of players to hit the new server, after that the same result would be in effect. If someone whom was in the 1st lot to xfer has your name you have to change it anyway and we have 1 more server added to the list.

And then you have the chat there, anyone who wants to talk about swtor is drown out by the gw2 and wow fanbois and the odd tera lover so any talk about swtor gets washed away.

Gamebreaker tv had the perfect platform to create ingame player events, to promote events organised on servers across the game. Ed could have run up ideas for open world pvp events across all servers but mainly on his.

But no they spend most there time just complaining. quite sad.

Extremely. I mean why wouldn't they take it upon themselves to make SWToR a good game? It's not like anyone out there is being paid to accomplish exactly that. Why would they sit here and squander their platform by constructively criticizing a game that they want to see improved when they could just take it upon themselves to fund the restoration of SWToR with their own wallets.

Man. I can't believe the nerve that these gamebreaker failures have. If anything, it's their fault that population has declined in such a way.

So really. It doesn't matter what BW wants to call them, most with a clue will know the reality of the situation, and it isn't as pretty of a reality as BW and some others around here would like us to think.
^ this. I dont want server mergers. I had to reroll and now I cannot reuinite my toons on a server of my choice. I brought a few people to this game.... they have left. I won't be asking them or anyone else to come back /shrug.

Can I answer that?

I don't care. I care even less about what they believe. I get paid to worry about my own business.

This game has been a great escape for me. I've been having fun since day one and am very excited that it is even going to get better now. That's all I care about. ;p

All I can do is laugh at these people in here saying "They are so negative" "The are not fair to SWTOR" while at the very same time we are going through MAJOR server merges at the 6 month mark in this game.

Endgame content for me was the cause. I had never even herd of these guys until I saw the link in this thread. LOL
Forbes Finacial also has a ton of negativity towards ToR as well and EA's stock is reflecting that fact. EA down another 4% again today.
