Cathar though, seriously? Out of all the possible Star Wars alien races, they went for anthropomorphic cats - as if there weren't enough of these already in MMOs, fantasy games, Skyrim et cetera. Really not playing to the strengths of the brand, did EA tell you that you had to have cats?
Haven't you ever been to youtube? On the interwebs cats sell!

It was a joke.

You guys REALLY need to play TSLRCM for KOTOR 2. The HK factory explains every question you guys have. And yes, he will be for Republic as well. He was for republic as well in Beta. I doubt they will change it. He will be for all classes and likely a Ranged DPS with the ability to tank (not sure though). Republic and Empire will be able to get him but the means will be different.

Kotor II's multiple HK-51s stated that they do not say 'Meatbag,' hell HK-47 complained about it to you at one point.

What exactly are you excited about? The companions in this game are unintereting generic archetypes with no personality. They are not fully fleshed out characters like Mass Effect... especially the droids. Side missions involve a fade out where they go solo it themselves except for the first companion you ever get? Come on.

Oh, and almost nobody will use this companion either because its not a healer.

Yeah I use Aric too, on stuff that I can't possibly fail, I don't need to med after, and just want to finish faster.

Healers would use him, yes... that's why I said almost nobody.
