this isn't a knock on you or anything, but in today's world, "top end PC from a couple years ago" is another way of saying "obsolete hardware"

For a second I thought you were playing System Shock 2.

If gaming is your hobby, you need to invest into your hardware, like flying model helictopers or surfing costs money for decent equipment, your PC needs to be upgraded and maintained.

It's not so true for TOR, because the engine really performs less than stellar, although the graphics are not very demanding. Textures are relatively low quality, shaders are cartoony, there is little to none realistic lighting, shadows are blocky, I saw no bumpmapping, no dynamic changing light.. I really wonder why there are performance problems. It seems to be server/connection speed related since FPS go down when there are many players near. Actually even on my machine which plays Crysis 2 on highest, TOR screen freezes for noticeable short amounts of time.

Time for a new PC man, or at least a new graphics card

I run a basic Dell Inspiron notebook, With and Intel graphics chip. very low end for graphics, but even I can run this game on medium graphics no problem. You all need to Upgrade your graphics cards, or processors, because you must be running some OLD *** computers if you're having problems like these. And old means 3+ years

They just brought a lower graphics setting with 1.2 (I think? Or was it 1.1. something?) . TBH, I don't think it's going lower.

Thanks for the clarification As long as performance keeps improving, even if it's not with a huge leap, it will be good.

I really hope that we can get a truly optimized engine someday in the near future (I want better loading times ) so that the team can move on to improve/correct other graphical issues, like the shadows to start with. No need to improve the game graphically right now if the engine won't be able to handle it (hey, at least we got AA and "decent" textures a while back).

Cheers.

But bottom line, I'd be surprised to see people rocking a dual-core rig to run a game in 2010 or later.

I'm stating this without considering what other hardware you have working alongside the processor that contributes to the overal performance of the PC.
Of course, if price were no object, I'd have an unlocked Intel I5. What I'm getting at is, it's not really necessary to have a great processor to have a good experience with SW:ToR. Here's a chart from Tom's Hardware that illustrates my point:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-overclocking,3077-5.html

If you look closely, you'll see that Intel's core I3 (which is a dual core) performs as well (in gaming) as the best products AMD is putting out, including their 8 core monster.

I'm not saying my processor is better than a quad core, (especially if I used this computer for anything like video editing). However, as a budget rig for playing games on, your money is better spent on a good graphics card and waiting to upgrade the processor later.

Thanks so much Bioware! I appreciate these very low settings which makes the game functional now on my 2006 Alienware Aurora m9700 laptop. Surprisingly it will work on a single core processor decently now and I'm getting like 10-25 FPS in game now with everything turned off.

I know that people complain about the game's graphics but for a MMO it's really good! It looks smashingly awesome on my souped up desktop which I can max up everything there. Just that my Alienware isn't state of the art anymore.
