ToS Violation for name ????

When I read the ToS on naming, the only mentions are that no character's name will be Offensive, Abusive or Defaming. (I'm sure there must be a copyright codicile somewhere as well. While names like RandomChar makes me wonder if someone was just bored, I can't see where that should raise eyebrows either.

If it were an RP server, yeah, stay in character, play to the lore; however, for one of a million or so names game-wide, residing on a basic PvE server, I think they have too much time on their hands to even make this an issue. Then, send notification via account e-mail the I face a lifetime ban.

Those "human anatomy" names will be changed too, it's just a matter of when someone reports them and they get the attention of the naming moderators (or whatever their job title is lol)

Though I do agree that it's a stretch to say anemia is offensive, I guess some uptight player on your server was offended and reported it. Though they really don't have to act on every over-reaction report by a player.

Now I want to make a character named Influenza and see if that's considered offensive lol

It would have been nice, not fair - but nice though, to give me an ability to choose another name. If they do change it, and not kill my account outright, it will most likely be something completely lame and not reflecting my personality at all.

Anemia actually kind of sounds name-like. I wonder if Osama would be flagged ?

It does sound like a bit of an overreaction.. or an outright mix up in definitions of words.

I've done some counseling, and one thing that for some reason is frequently mixed up is Anemia & Bulimia. One is definitely worse.

Of course, it could just be the "No real word names" thing as well, but really, this one is pretty silly.

Yeah it's actually in the page-long naming rules that you can't have names of famous people or historical figures. That's why I couldn't make Darth Abelincoln

Happened to me in in LOTRO once as well.

My main char had a surename in a different language than the server language was. So I was asked by a GM to change it and use a name in the language of the server. Granted it was an RP server and at least back then they very much looked after enforcing that special status of the server ... but I still found it somewhat a stretch. Anyway, I just gave myself the same surename just in the proper language.

I also know who probably reported me. It was shortly after I had a competition with some other player over some low number mobs I needed for a deed (Limrafn in Evendim for everyone who played the game - they come only out at night and even then there are not many around - a true pain in the neck). To make a long mater short I was faster and he essentially did not get many of those mobs and eventually left - but not without reporting me to the GMs I guess.

So sometimes it is really just ill will and revenge or something similar.

I could see where Bulimia could be bad. That's a difficult thing to overcome. I just thought it was fun because my character turned out so pale, plus I was dashing through the creation process to make one of each.

If they had a policy on no real words, they could easily add a filter. They have mostly all deities locked out from creation. In honesty, of all of the names I made, I really thought Beelzebub would be the one to cause me some grief.

I guess I should avoid AnnyRexik for a joke back on them.

(I really thought Devs had more of a sense of humour than they are exhibiting here.
