The layoffs have me confused more then anything else. Help?

The restructuring/layoffs is the first bit if SWTOR news that has actually left me concerned. I'm a diehard SWTOR fanboy with a 6 month sub. I still believe a good group finder, server transfers and ranked warzones can totally save this game.

Honestly this new announcement has me confused more then anything else. It might sound bizzare but I'm not even sure if this is a good or bad thing. I mean SWTOR has had issues, with things like development priorities, buggy patches, poor communication and the like. Isn't it possibly that their trimming the fat, moving people around and maybe even hiring one or two new smarty pants to FIX SWTOR not gut it? Or does this have to be 100% bad news?
I just don't know if I should be happy or sad and that's really annoying. I mean its always bad when people lose their jobs but if some of these people were just doodling all day their salaries can be better spend elsewhere. I'm not saying everyone sacked deserved it or anything.
I'm just not sure if this means DOOOOM or NEW HOPE or just alittle tighning of the belt to keep swtor profitable with less subscribers.

Can someone help me out here?

Here is the thing... first off-- anytime someone loses a job in this project so soon, there is NOT a positive spin to it. Unless the people were names and people we never seen or heard from , then it would not be so bad to the extent those would have been predicted and launch team temp only.
This is different, this is part of the team that made it what they have now... or lucky to have now perse. Sadly seeing Reid lose his job is one that should make you go.. "Crap".... that was a guy that was knee deep in it for us and the product.

This is cutting losses and nothing more. They are now removing people down to a viable core to keep the product going.

UNDERSTAND, I love the product and would not post this if I was not worried. I dumped a lot of time and fun into this product and it is having issues too soon. Do not think once that those people that are gone now did not care about the game, us or the product. Trust me they did... they helped make it. (With direction) of course.

This is the nature of the beast sadly and no good will come from it. Sure, things can change, but as far as "GOOD" perse I do not see it as true.

They are trimming away as much cost as possible. Now the game won't be shutting down anytime soon. It will keep running as long as it makes a profit, but any great content is over. EA will allow a couple of small updates a year just to keep things running while people are willing to play.

I read sopposdly they are already looking to replace Reid, not cut his position completely. Now I liked Reid but maybe their just looking for people to blame and again are replacing some figures as well as firing. I also read there were 800 freaking people total working on things at least somewhat related to swtor so even 200 firings isnt that huge depending on who it was.

Is there no way this good be good news? I want to make sure before I open my vodka

Get the glass... as a positive spin, it sucks. I say have a shot for em' But as far as what is still being worked on, sure they can't throw out all that bath water for sure. The game still has life by all means, I love it still play it raid and so on. BUT..... and I say this with candid intent... BUT... there is worry in the air and rightfully so.

At no way did I expect to see people getting axed so soon. No way was this predicted that is for sure.

They will find someone with different shoes and add more job titles sure... but in the end.... people are still removed that I think cared.

Sucks..

What usually happens in these instances is some people get tasked with double duty.

In FURY when the community reps got the pink slip when Auran declared bankruptcy, I was just a lowly mod at the time. The manager in charge of support (which really was oversight, as Auran until then outsourced CSR's to another company) was tasked with watching over the forums/irc chat. However the regular forum moderators were brought into a closer circle with what was left of the dev team and basically given admin level power and became the true community reps, but the bossman would make the big announcements himself.

Anyway I'd except less regular news now, but someone will be tasked with delivering it in some manner eventually.
