That thing you are grasping at.... it's a straw >.<
*sigh* I'm going to try one more time, and then I'm going back to my original assessment that it probably needs time to sink in:

Driving is a privilege. That means that if you spend hundreds of dollars on training, license fee, and then thousands of dollars on a car, that privilege can be taken from you tomorrow, regardless of how much you spent.

Let's take it a step further to a service, such as this: Internet Service is a privilege. That means that if you pay startup cost and a month of service, and it goes down for a week, that's that. The company can offer you a free month (kinda like BioWare did, huh?) but that's it, it's still a privilege, regardless of that company's level of service.

Is it sinking in yet?

Thus, as a privilege, you have the free choice to stop paying and move on. Otherwise, if it wasn't a privilege, you couldn't do that even if you were dissatisfied.

Report posts more.
Meanwhile, in Tera general chat -

"The sad thing is, arguing with fanbois on the forums was more entertaining than their 300 million dollar single player MMO from 2008"

It's not possible for you miss the point that badly. At this point I have to believe you are being intentionally obtuse.

If you buy a car and it doesn't have an engine, that's not a privilege. Nothing you have posted to date has addressed that fundamental point that was made. Everything in my comment to date has been to that point.

The point was that it is a privilege to pay for incomplete product, I disagree, suddenly you are saying that in 3rd world countries they can't even play it... Mutually exclusive....

An MMO is not a product so much as it is a service. Think internet service.

But I do think I see where we're getting crossed here: Paying and playing an MMO is a privilege. Getting short-changed is not a privilege. Is this what you're trying to say? Because I doubt that's what the original poster you quoted meant...

However, as with any service, there is the "fine print". For an MMO it's "experience may change during online play" and "implementation of any advertised or mentioned feature is dependent on testing results". Thus, you cannot, by definition, be "short-changed".

For an internet service provider its: "SPEEDS up to 12Mbps!" and "services may not be always up in all areas due to nature, outages, and equipment failure" hidden somewhere on the back of the ad.

It's still a privilege to have any service. You're comparison to a product is erroneous.

I guess I could point out the 1000s of 1000s of bugs and glitches with the games you mentioned, especially LOTRO, but I'll just point out that yes, after five years, it was running smooth and content was released almost monthly.

Bioware has stated that they want to be able to push out content monthly as well in a couple little spots here in there. Its a good attitude to have for a developer. And once all the stuff they didn't know would happen or would go wrong gets cleared out of the way, I think they can do that.

Pretty much every mmo is a beta for the first year. Except in WoW when gamers where young and naive, a quest that couldn't be completed cause of a bug that wouldn't allow you to progress wasn't the end of life as we knew it. However in TOR seeing a wz glitch once a week, or not being able to open the chests on Ilum for one daily mission = game is unplayable.

We have been spoiled. We weigh years of developers perfecting thier craft in one game against another a mere 5 months old.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to sound like a swtor fanboy, I have 23 days left on my free trial and then I'm going to take a break, but I will come back. Its a great foundation and i will be monitoring it closely for that day that they add something really cool, or something that really gets me excited in gaming.(like space combat lol, or open world pvp incentives), and they will.(imo)
Don't take me too seriously, I don't

It helps if you think about the state of an MMO in the first year as more of a privilege to being able to play while they polish it off, instead of a fully built game
Bud that is EXACTLY what he said.... you are getting something that is not a completed as originally claimed. That's what I have been saying in almost every post.

Was saying getting short change is not a privilege and clearly I was trying to clarify many posts ago about what the issue I was speaking to actually was.

Just log on to your server, you will probably be the only 2 on there.

Again saying getting short changed is not a privilege.
You're entire premise here has a fallacious basis, though. An MMO is not a product, it's a service. Thus all caveats and disclaimers apply. Thus, you have yet to be "promised" something, in the first place. Secondly, as such, one cannot claim to be "missing" anything.

His attempt to help you view the big picture correctly may have been poorly worded, but the concept is sound. You are not buying a car without an engine here. You are purchasing an internet service that advertises speeds up to 12Mbps, then ranting that you're only getting 10Mbps. Well, that's what "up to" means...

Many haven't been happy about that. So, they tried a different internet service.

You see how those are the same?

I've demonstrated time and time again this point and you keep ignoring it.

First you went to third world countries, now you are comparing it to internet speeds, wouldn't it just be easier at this point to admit you were wrong? Or how about admit you misunderstood my point and were wrong.... really....

He does for the most point like to bring up random points that dont help his clause. I would just stop responding to his posts because it's far from being constructive and frankly a waste of time.
