They don't have much time. New games are coming out soon.

Bioware had a window of time to make their case. If players are not sold on the basic mechanix and game play of the game by this time Bioware has precious little time to fix it before the next MMO appears.

I think they made a number of fundamental mistakes in their design. The game is too much slanted to Killer-Achiever play style with not enough for the Explorers and Socializers. The mechanix are too derivative of WOW. You can't out WOW WOW; you need something very different.

WOW, at the time of it's release, was such a phenomenon because there wasn't essentially anything else to compete with it. Most of the fantasy games at the time had reached a point where they were getting old to people playing them. I'd say the majority of the MMO fantasy community were ready for something new at least a year before it came out. There were a number of MMO failures as companies pushed out games before they were ready. Then WOW came out and it was polished and new and it worked (mostly).

SWTOR needs to differentiate its game play from the pack. The current themepark rides and PVP system will not retain players for very long. There's no long term retention in grinding. People are tired of that. They need something bettter.

Yes - Every one that I have played up to this point, that is. And for the ones I haven't, been plenty of people on the boards to confirm for all the others as well.

I'm sorry but, it's BW shooting themselves in the foot over and over, not us.
Amazing, everyone comes looking for the next MMO that bucks the trend and offers something different ... then complains that all the same MMO stuff is not in the game. Only in the gamer mentality world. As someone else said - what may be necessary for one, is not necessary for another. I don't need player housing - it's a waste of development time. Plenty of others will disagree, but that is the nature of the world - not everyone is going to get what they want. BW delivered on what they said they were designing into the game. Some of it needs to be fixed and polished, naturally (again, nothing is perfect - perfection is an unobtainable ideal), but it's there.

I'm having fun and I will be playing this game for some time in the future, but in General the game has not brought what I had expected from it. I'm fully confident I could have done a way better job

It feels a bit like a missed opportunity.

But even despite that, I will be playing

This game doesn't buck a trend though, nor does it offer anything really different to MMO's aside from voiced dialog. It's still a hand holding theme park game. Considering that it does need the same features other MMO's of this type rely on.

They have until the next popular game comes out, as does any company making video games. That's how things work in the real world. I'm not going to pay to play a mediocre game when there are half a dozen other games in the same genre on the market.

The MMO market is a crowded space and you cannot push out a product and figure you have 6 months to a year to get it squared away. I have really enjoyed playing but this game is in serious trouble.
OMG you sound so much like one of those give me give me give me kiddies...

did you even stop and proof read what your wrote... you are saying BW is the only company that has ever had a buggt game. REALLY.... do you thin Blizzard had all the bugs out of thier game when they put it out? lets talk guild war and aion.. both riddled with bugs on release. I took a year for blizzard to finally start to compensate people for thier mistakes. I was there.... there were so many bug blizzard could even begin to try and class balance because of them.. yet you want to put your soap box down stand on it and preach about BW's buggy game.

your expectations are extremely bias... for that there is only one to blame.. yourself. SWTOR is a great game...they actually hit the ground running on bug fixing but still manage to get systems in the game no other mmo has really tried all the while using what they have learned from the other mmo's. But because most of you are still blizzard fanboi's and refuse to understand that there can be more than one great MMO... you will never see SWTOR for what it has really done... I blew the opneing subs record away... and even after that it still manitains a higher sub rate than wow had it first year. the only reason is because unlike wow BW made the mistake of having too many servers open at the launch so thier playerbase got spread out. Server merges and keeping on track with fixing bugs with a new content patch will make this game even better.. but as it stands right now... most of you will go back to kung fu panda land which doesn't have legacy.. or companions.... or moddable gear...

In the grand scheme of things..

Biowares biggest failing is lack of dev response in general on the forums.

Coming from rift, where the devs scour the forums related to their department and will respond if someone has a question or if something seems wrong, these forums are a sahara desert when it comes to dev involvement.

Not saying they need to respond to every. single. post. But come on get with it and get involved with the community.

Not to mention they are wasting some actual good predictions and advice. EVERYONE said nerfing sorcerers/sages was a bad idea. And it was the way it was nerfed as well, they gutted the game mechanic instead of just increasing a CD. Also...in general...do not nerf everyone but 3 AC's in a massive nerf patch like that.

A gaming company always has the option to buff, nerf, or fix. In alot of cases fixing things would be a better longterm investment.
Resolve is still broken, though they say its fixed, and with todays bursty pvp, how can we know.
At the 4 month mark you buff classes to bring them up to speed, not nerf the ever loving crap out of everything people are having fun with.

But at least talk to us. Tell us why you think something should be and we can tell you, sure, sounds good, or your an idiot. And brace yourself because by looking at your past performance theres going to be alot of the latter.

They have been developing that game for ... how long? It was released like half a year ago ... How much time should we give them?

Why should I buy and pay for a game that is released in 2011 that does not have the features and content of comparable games? Yes, I know ... WoW or LotRO have had years to grow, to add content ... but this is SWTOR's competition (give or take) ... SWTOR competes with games that offer much more ... why should players play SWTOR? Because it's Star Wars? How much Star Wars feeling is there really? Because all dialogues are spoken? How important is that for most players?

I'm not a PvPler, I'm not even a raider ... I'm a role player ... SWTOR does not offer me much. No housing (no, don't call my spaceship "housing"), no social clothing slots, not many ways of interacting with the surroundings (I can't even really sit down in the cantina). If you want to be successful, you have to offer most features which older games offer after some years of development NOW, at release - or have something really nice and unique. Otherwise, why should people switch?
