The $200 million figure has been debunked many times.

Even if it did cost that much, you can't compare the costs of wildly different MMOs because the cost of content that one focused on (voice acting) is far, far more expensive than the content that others focused on (rifts, whatever those other games did that was remarkable).

SWTOR is a steak dinner and Rift is a chicken dinner. Both are good - you really can't say that one is intrinsically "tastier" than the other - but the steak dinner will cost more to prepare simply due to what is in it.

We got something that should've taken ~3years and about US$30million to make that is now seemingly having to have its financial performance fabricated to keep shareholders happy.
WoW is in the Asian market SWTOR is not. Until SWTOR gets in that market they will never reach 10million people. Good luck even hitting 5 million.

EDIT: Oops forgot they launched in Asia March 1st. If that market doesn't like SWTOR they will never hit the numbers WoW has

Seems like a double standard to me.

Thanks for that, it appears that arguably the most accurate answer to what happened is a phrase containing the words 'arse' and 'elbow' or another containing 'bitten' and 'chew'. The Bartle Test hmmm I'm more of a passive observer type I guess I'm not supposed to play MMOs and the 'OODA' model oh dera oh dear lets rush through things as fast as possible without thinking them through properly - yeah fabulous stuff, I hear they did that with the Titanic mid journey. Still ya gotta give kudos to BW on being so open about it.

In short this game is the malt liquor of MMo's. Some poeple really do like it.
LOL EA Louse, no. Any judgements of "misspent" are purely based in opinion. I think the game is phenomenal on a number of levels, and even though it has its problems here and there, I believe it to be a superb game.

Do I expect everyone to enjoy it as much as me? Nope. But usually people who don't enjoy a game just move on to other games, rather than skulking around the game forum lamenting "what could have been" and insulting the developers left and right. That's the part I don't get.

Having played Rift up to raiding the last instance - I agree with most of the OP's comments

I am still enjoying playing SWTOR - I basically got bored with Rift as there was not a lot to do other than raid in the finish - because I had levelled and raided on both factions, and just grinding endgame gear - does not have a lot of immersion for me

However - the Rift devs did a great job with setting up the game's UI from the start - similar to what we now have in SWTOR

In addition, Rift had simple macros that allowed to set targets and follow commands

and of course Rift had home cities - I miss that in SWTOR, and a great transport system to anywhere in the games
- which SWTOR urgently needs

And LFG and automatic transport to instances - did get us grouping up very early in the game - it was great

To sum it up, not unlike a big budget movie with a great cast and a great story that somehow falls flat. I never really felt that I was someplace I’d never been before (think cantina in Mos Eisley from StarWars)

By trying to create an MMO that was great at everything at launch we ended with an MMO that was mediocre at best in every category…

Let's face it without the StarWars IP this game is crap.

It's not a hate post. It's a whine post.

/totally agree

And I'm sorry to see your farewell post got locked so fast - I thought it was dead on and warranted ALOT of valuable feedback, too bad the CM's didn't.
