Just so you know, World of Warcraft uses microtransactions. All of those vanity pets, mounts, name changes, server changes are examples. Those are fine by me.
I never played WoW. Since SWTOR is the only MMO I play (don't have time for more), that would probably mean going back to a VERY casual gaming in Fallen Earth and Star Trek online.
You are not your rig specs. You are not your K/D ratio. You are not your character level. You are not your sig.

I have never played a PTW game yet and don't plan on starting. I have put a lot of time and effort into my characters but I can walk away in a heart beat if I need to.

The following microtransactions would be good for the game and the forums:

1. ability to close forum thread for say 10 bucks

2. ability to ban forum poster for 24hours say 15 bucks

Dude...that idea's crazy enough that it might just work. THIS is BRILLIANT! This is capitalism at its finest!

Kudos!

I'm in for something like that.

However, I would pay for a LOTRO style appearance tab. i.e. - Wear one set of something and get the bonuses for it while showing an entirely different set (not getting the second set bonuses)

Whats the use in having all these different looks when you really can't use them. Such a waste.

Look at LOTRO.

It should be exactly like that. They offer clothes, pets, armor, mounts, crafting packs, xp boosts, etc. Nothing they offer for cash transactions can be used as an advantage over non-paying players.(the clothes, armor etc would have no stats.. just mod slots like the pieces do now)

All the people that cry "I'll leave if they go f2p/microtransaction!" crack me up.

What I want to see:

-Character slots for sale by server (buyable only when logged into a character and for that server you're logged into, or at least some easy way to pick which server.)
-Character Rename ability
-Legacy Rename ability
-Race Unlocks (still requires Legacy level requirement to be met first - basically, get with a level 50 race, OR get Legacy X and money, OR Legacy X and a buck or two)

What I do NOT want to see:

-XP / Stat boost items
-Weapons / armor, even if it's vanity items
-Other Legacy-related stuff (ship droids, ship GTNs, etc.)
-PvP "packs"
-Grab bags
-Other drastic gameplay-altering things
-Overpriced stuff ("New race for $15! Different ship for $20!")
The average person thinks he isn't.

If you are paying a subscription.....you should never NEED to purchase from a "cash shop". MT's devalue what you get if you pay a sub just as they devalue what you get if you purchase a traditional non-MMO type game. Companies bean counters have gotten the idea that if they seperate out what they use to provide in a game in the past and sell it to FOOLS the think they need said items, that they can make more money. However, there are those of us (customers) that feel that we do not wish to be nickel and dimed. Nor do we feel we are getting better service for our dollars spent. They get YOUR dollars for very little value in return.

Give me an MMO that I can visit and have fun! Where what I pay for is not going to those that play for free.

I have eight character slots per server. Therefore, I should never NEED to buy more. However, I want to. The old days, you had X character slots, period. You want more, you either get another subscription, which means paying $30 as opposed to $15 a month, and buying a second copy of the game for the account key, and remembering yet another login ID and password, email address, etc. Nowadays, you pay a buck or two, you get another slot.

Services and stuff, I'd be fine with that being sold as you need them. Other stuff... it's mostly hit-or-miss. Something like Champions, it was alright at first - mainly just services and a few costume packs. Lately..... real crap. You can't buy certain travel powers without buying transformation packs, which might be a real waste if you don't like those things.
