Have a great day folks!
Then you can take my spot, because I'll be leaving if it goes F2P. I have no interest in F2P games. If it gets that bad, you can have it.

Uhm.. What? Going F2P is no longer a death sentence. Just look at STO/Champs/Team Fortress 2
imo for a mmo it is, there is notting to charge to get money from and pay too keep the game running, some posts inhere said they are ok with looks being the part you buy with RL money, but for me not in a mmo, the one that gets to look the coolest is the one that puts in the most effort and not the one that has the biggest wallet.

I love how people say "If this goes F2P i will quit" it just makes me laugh cause in the end you wont quit.

People say F2P games are Pay to win, well Guild Wars1 and soon to be 2 says otherwise as it does fine F2P and there is no way to pay to win in the game.

Now if we see another large drop in subs for the next quarter 25%+ i can see this game going F2P hopefully a F2P model like DC Universe where you have basic features for free and full features for P2P or maybe doing what GW2 does and have mainly cosmetic items in its ingame store. But the only way i see this game losing that many subs is if we still dont have transfers/merges or they added too late and let say they announce content for 1.3 and decide to pull some main things from it hours before release.

I would personally love it if SWTOR was free to play.

IMO, I already bought the game, paying a subscription to play it offends me.
I never played WoW because of this.

I broke down and did it with this game because I loved the KOTOR series so much.

If they wanted to charge a fee for major updates, I'd be ok with that with the clause:
They should not be required to play. They should include certain benefits to encourage thier purchase.

Anyhow, that's my pipe dream.
Still love the game.

F2P saved DDO and LOTRO without it being "pay to win".

Argument fails.

No, from their last quarterly report in early Feb. They lost 400K Subs in March and early April. They are down from 2.4 million total box sales to 1.3 million subscribers since launch.

Not out of line percentage wise with games like Rift, Star Trek Online, and LOTR. On the other hand, being in line with those games isn't exactly a good thing if the trend continues which is almost certain without server transfers and LFG added before "summerish".

The MMO business is cut throat and unforgiving. The longer you let big problems go, the more you permanently lose customer base and get the dreaded "word of mouth" kiss of death.

Not a chance. FFXI lasted for 5 years at 400k dedicated players before peaking at 2 million in 2009. At just a million subs, BW can make up their initial investment in 2 years. For an MMO that is always a long term investment that is a huge success. Further investment will have to be made for development of expansions, infrastructure upgrades, salaries, etc in that time. But this game will be profitable within 3 years easily. Why would you go f2p and ruin that?

In this thread, and all the other threads, I've yet to see anyone point out an MMO that is thriving in sales or customer reviews. Don't point out the 3x increase from LOTRO, one it's F2P and any F2P is a bad comparision, two, the 3x increase was one month after the initial switch, show me some recent data. Everyone's opinion has been subjective. If anything, we can assess subscription MMO games in general are on a decline due to failing economy and the lack of any dramatic change in the industry. It's still kill x,y,z with different artistic styles and backgrounds.

How does it offend you to pay for a service? That's what an MMO is, a service.
