You dodged the question.

If this game did not have the Star Wars license, would you pay $15 a month for it?

it would be ludicrous to assume that the majority of those didn't activate their game. Granted there will be some, but it would be reasonable to believe that it would be very very few that would do that. Not that many people buy an MMO and never activate it.
How do you measure the success of an MMO?

Yes, I would. Because it's BioWare, the best storytellers in the genre. If it wasn't Star Wars, it'd be Mass Effect, or Dragon Age, or something comparable. I suppose you're going to retort now with some kind of unquantifiable "low standards" insult?

The vast majority did. 1.7 million, actually.

I like fudge better than smudge.

But as for the business practice.

It's sneaky. I understand a lot of companies do it, but it is rather unethical.

it will eventually bite them somewhere uncomfortable if they continue to do this for investor calls though, eventually it's not going to be questions about how many people have subscribed but how much profit has the game turned. Is it still generating profit? Probably, but the margin considering how much was invested in it is rather ridiculous, for what was invested in it, it should have more to show for it.

Simple as that.
But this is what I don't get - plenty of people say that, but what exactly is the end game content you are looking for? Just about every other MMO out there (including the upcoming Almighty GW2) has the equivalent type of end game. Heck, even WoW barely has more than SWTOR does now and how long has that one been out again?

I have asked this in several threads, and have not yet seen one person complaining about it state what "end game" they are talking about. Let's remember, SWTOR was never hyped nor designed to be SWG 2.0, nor should it be, therefore the sandboxing type of content is out of the question (though some sandboxing of a very limited nature might be nice to see in a future content patch).

The issue isn't the number of players really, its the number of players spread out amongst far too many servers. Server merges would go a LONG way to remove the feeling of playing " SWTOR: I Am Legend ".
