I'm not saying that casuals are not leaving the game. I am sure some are, and I am sure Bioware is surprised that any would leave so early in the game.

But the hardcore PvP and the hardcore PvE have consumed and moved on in large numbers (as evidenced by mass exodus of very lare hardcore guilds on a good number of the servers. There is nothing to thank them for, they are as usual a negative detriment to the game because they don't really care about the game, only about themselves and their personal hardcore experience.

Update: In a conference call this afternoon, EA said the decrease was indeed due to "casual and trial players" cycling out of the game.

Seems like a double standard to me.

Dang, some people left. I guess that means I shouldn't enjoy the game anymore.

I'd say TOR is doing great. Still way above the typical MMO dropoff curve.

What's important now is what BioWare does from now on. That's where we'll see if this game will break the mold or not. Transfer/shut-downs and endgame content needs to come soon if they're to have any real shot at the atypical increase in subs.
Proof of 2 million copies sold of Rift?
How do you measure the success of an MMO?

Too bad his assumptions were factually wrong. But bad assumptions have never gotten in the way of a good read have they? lol

If you read the EA Q4 Script, you should be very concerned about this title going F2P. EA wants to push microtransactions across the board on all their titles. I'm sure SWTOR is in their sights.

just out of curiousity what is considered hardcore anymore ? in vanilla that certain other game ppl like to name drop i raided religously was playing north of 50hrs a week working for top tier gear, through the 3rd expansion i played what was generally considered casual no hardmode raids no set timeframes etc..., here it's mix and match for me but is it time that determines hardcore, progression, number of high lvl toons, titles or skill? furthermore at the end of the day it is a game a game is designed to be played so what does it matter how intensly you play r u somehow more valuable to a sub based game if u have more time devoted even though bioware gets the same amount of money from you?

People are making a correlation from overall TOR sales to current subs, so I did the same. RIFT sold/gave away close to 2 million boxes, and they're now at 250k subs.

Even if you want to go by subs alone, and not sales, Rift went from 600k subs to 250k subs, a decrease of 58%. TOR is still well above that curve.

even tho I only play an hour or two a day while I play I shotgun beers then crush the cans on my forehead... that makes me a "hardcore" player

What they were talking about is people who installed the game, but never resubbed after 30 days free play was done + trial accounts that did not convert.
