Yeah, 1.3 million is a nice number but how is a loss of 25% of your clients a good thing?

I'm in sales, if I lost 25% of my accounts...I would be fired.

Two observations about the 38 countries

1)They are not concerned into the report, check the dates (It's fairly obvious that the launch in those 38 countries was accelerated because of slouching sub numbers)

2)I don't want to soo chauvinistic, but I think that the pool of SW and MMO players from Afghanistan must be pretty limited. (A)

(A)I think we can fairly assume that this is for the NATO troops however. This said, TOR is also released in better markers, like Egypt, Turkey, Ukraine..

I'm told the game only needs 500,000 subscribers to be profitable. That should give you a sense of scale for that 25% loss...
Actually it needs 1m to make a profit 'that is nothing to write home about '

The two big things I take away from this are:

1) TOR has lost ~30% of its subscriber base in 3 months.
2) Current players are leaving at a rate greater than new people joining.

Looking at those stats and saying that 1.3 million is a lot of people and therefor the game is thriving, is no different than looking at a 300lb man who is down in weight from 400lbs and completely ignoring his weight loss in your assessment of his overall health.

But hey, at least now we have solid numbers to support the people saying "Hey, is it just me or does my sever feel less active?"... Yeah, well, according to the numbers, it should feel about 30% less active.

Well, I'm not sure of the exact amount of 2.2 million give or take,
but there are plenty of sites that anyone can google that have
articles stating that swtor has sold over 2 million copies.

Here are just a few.

I noticed this was stated in that report.
"Several more EA brands will be introduced in the Play4Free portal in fiscal 13"

I'd bet my left butt cheek that this game goes ftp next year and introduces microtransactions of DLC. Unless of course you keep a sub. I wouldn't doubt thats been the plan from the beginning.
Good, bad, I'm the guy with the gun....

I would think so. The information the members of the community have collected since launch seem to indicate only a small drop in player activity overall. This would indicate that those staying are playing the game more than they were in the past, to the point that the activity lost due to cancelled accounts has nearly been neutralized.

All in all, 1.3 million is very respectable for a game still months away from its mature state. Additionally, I'm pleased that they dropped news of two planned content updates in the next quarter: folks are worried that the recent developer silence is a bad sign, but they just confirmed plans to release 1.3 and 1.4 within the coming three months.
