1.3 million obviously includes the majority of the population playing for free due to the 1.2 free month.

From a business POV, TOR is not behaving as well as investors hope

From a game POV, losing 400k subs out of 1.7 is one of the best performance in MMOs since WoW.

This said, investors react badly to any negative news. WoW lost more than a million subs last year, and the stock dumped.

Of course you can't rely on them--they're trying to predict an uncertain future. I don't rely on weathermen either, but they know enough to give us an idea based on trends. And that's really all they--and analysts--are good for. In this case, the analyst was widely dismissed, but it turns out he was right! In fact, he predicted a smaller decline!

I agree. One of the head honchos didn't know the game lost 400k subs by March? This doesn't give me warm fuzzies. I hope they use this as a learning lesson and make improvements to class balance, pvp and server transfers. We like voice overs etc, but the mechanics need to be in place first.

I am glad to see this.

I was already laughing pretty darn hard when I was reading a dev saying "We're happy with our game". Now it's going to be even more hilarious, especially since I have absolutely no sympathy towards Bioware after the healer nerf (especially Commando). Absolutely NO SYMPATHY and I do wish TOR a slow and painful death.

I really hope that they're not sitting in the office right now saying "well, 1.3 million is still a fair amount". Yeah 1.3 million does not sound bad but if you look at how they are distributed over the servers it shouldnt take a rocket scientist to figure out that we're already in a downward spiral. An MMO relies on a healthy server populations and 90 % of the servers have already reached a point where the basic MMO mechanics, such as being able to play with other people, arent supported by the population. For every 1-5 that drops from a server they will lose atleast another subscriber.

I havent jumped ships yet but I gave up on my lvl 30 leagcy this morning and decided to go back to my Shadow on an even "dead'er" server in hope that server transfers will be availbale once it dings 50. In terms of fidning something to do in this game it's my last resort. I'm not going to level more chars just because there's no one to play with and we can't all re-roll to "that one server".

2.) 1.3 million is probably the best retention rate seen since Warcraft.
3.) We have no idea how much Legacy 1.2 and 38 new prospects have increased the Sub numbers.
Again, just like last time, they stated the subscriber numbers as of the day of the report, not what they had at the end of December. No reason to believe they would do things different this time.
How do you measure the success of an MMO?

This figure of 1.3m players means that SWTOR is the 2nd most played MMO in the world, and it hasn't even launched in other regions yet.
