From what I can see it's too many broken promises, complacency in the (potentially market-leading) PvP area and the fact that it's just too expensive in general (initial box price AND monthly renewals while you can't get cross-server WZ queues working?...).

The numbers are going to be considerably lower once GW2 hits. They've got a month, tops, to start making major shifts in the PvP setup (PvE, to my eyes, is pretty well-developed as-is) and develop a real selling point beyond "COMING SOON!!" placebos. Also, there's no need for a server per paying customer, really, we're playing an MMO, having more than 2 active players on the same planet as us at any given time isn't going to detract from the playing experience.

I don't think people want the game to crash and burn. If they did they wouldn't be here QQing all the time. THey want the game to live up to its potential. The problem is the developers don't listen to the community. I'm betting that they will now though. Well at least I hope so.

This is the sort of thing that makes me question the future of this game. I hope the development team stops making one mistake after another. The core of this game has a bright future, but if the developers continue to make one mistake after another it will not. This is just my opnion, but I could be wrong. Have a good day.

It's important to note that the oft-ignored and dismissed site TORStatus actually predicted this decline in subscriptions--granted, to a lesser degree than was announced today.
Quote:
In an investor note released today, Cowen and Company analyst Doug Creutz said he suspects that subscription levels for The Old Republic may already be lower than the 1.7 million EA reported in February. Creutz's primary piece of evidence for this belief is publicly available server population numbers assembled and reported by TORstatus.net. These figures have shown a roughly 10 percent decline over the last two months. That doesn't necessarily mean the game has lost 10 percent of its subscribers in that time, of course, but it isn't really a sign of strong player growth, either.

I think the new figures lend more credence to sites like TORStatus as there's clearly some correlation between concurrent users and subscription health.

EA said active subscribers totaled 1.3 million at the end of the quarter
1.3 million is still pretty decent.
Real Star Wars space combat please, not Star Wars Fox! Maybe some PvP and flight too?

TORstatus is not an accurate way of seeing numbers, it merely shows the trend of server populations, but nice try.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. That analyst has also been wrong on a number of occasions. Point being, you can't really rely on them.

heh come on fanboys and biodrones remember what you used to say? 2 milion copies sold, 1.7 milion subscribers by 1)reality - 31 december or 2)fanboys - Febuary when the first report was released.

Now its 1.3 milion active subscriptions - thats a loss of 400000 subscribers in half a year. Great Bioware did something the same as Warcraft, you lost 400000 subs in one fiscal quater
