Hello everyone!

We would like to take the time to remind everyone that while it is easy to follow organic shifts in conversation, that replies should be in regards to cross-server group finders and Star Wars™: The Old Republic™. Please do not go off-topic discussing other games solely or topics, such as population. If you'd like to discuss populations, mergers or transfers, please do so in any of the threads we have for that:

Please also see the Community Q&A from April 27 where Daniel Erickson, Lead Game Designer, briefly discusses the Group Finder and 1.3:

Quote:
Lovarboy: Will we get dual spec with Game Update 1.3?

Daniel: Unfortunately, no. Game Update 1.3 is being kept a bit leaner to get the Group Finder and the next stage of Legacy in the game as fast as possible. After that we’ll be returning to some bigger updates and we’re hoping dual spec makes it for the next one.
From the February 24th Community Q&A:

Quote:
deusBAAL: Will you be providing a LFG tool? What will be its features? How will it be intended to work and when can we expect it to go live?

Daniel Erickson: We are hard at work on a much more robust LFG functionality that will quickly help put groups together while still offering the flexibility to decide how you group and what sort of people you want to be grouped with. We’ll release more details as we get closer to release.
Please be sure to keep an eye on the Developer Tracker, where you can find the latest posts from developers made on the forums!

And even more importantly why would you care if someone else does use it?? .
Well said..

If I wan't to use one that is my prerogative. You don't have to use it if you don't want to. If you have a guild great, if you have time to spend looking for a group that's fine too but I don't and many others don't either.

Would I run a flashpoint with a guild first? Hell yes. But please don't tell me you met a great tank or healer or dps by pugging. I won't tell someone how to find a group but there should be options on how to find others when needed.

People should not have to join a guild if they don't want to. People should be able to run solo if they want to. People should have freedom to enjoy the game when they want and an LFG systems helps that for people with irregular schedules or play styles.

Here's the thing alot of people don't understand. Group finder doesn't magically bar people from doing dugeons with friends, guild members or even random people from the server. It just makes it less of a hassle for the socially inept, impatient, or the idle players which in turn will make the servers busier. Many people(like yourself) will still prefer to run dungeons with friends and guild members and I personally believe this kind of behaviour should be encouraged with greater experience gains, legacy gains and social points. This way the sociable players get what they want and so do the not so sociable ones.

My very radical prediction for things to come
Based solely on my experience with legacy and the direction it seems to be pointing to. Complete and total conjecture. Take it with a grain of salt.

They're gonna keep the LFG Dungeon/Operations tool server only, but allow for cross faction PvE. Make it so your faction choice only affects your PvP experience. Doing this increases the PvE pool and reduces some of the issues you'll face with a server only LFG tool on faction sides that are underpopulated.

From a lore perspective, you can think of it as both sides uniting against a common foe or threat. The loot in PvE is already cross-faction friendly in that the tier pieces that drop are a single item for both factions.

The legacy system is already set up to ideally support 4 imps and 4 pubs per server, with a base class from each faction needed to unlock every presence bonus on a single legacy server.

Legacy allows us complete and total unrestricted mail cross faction already with the introduction of 1.2. They're gonna get rid of faction/neutral specific GTN's, merge them all into a single market. Cross faction mail makes the separation an unnecessary boundary, and a single market provides value to the 5m GTN kisok you can buy for your ship. This will also give added value to those cross faction schematics we're all learning already.

Add all of the above with server transfers and mergers, and you'll have everything in place to support PvE on each server, and allow it to flourish.

Yes, you actually are. The logic you are using is these other games are successful because they have cross realm LFG, and implying that because TOR doesn't it won't be.

is that hard to do a /who 50 and go thru each class asking if anyone wants to run a flashpoint with you?

Players who want to group need access to other players who want to group. A cross-server LFD is the most efficient solution. Yes, people can make friends and join Guilds but that alone is not enough, unless your friends and Guildies are online 24/7.

It's not efficient, and some players find it "intrusive" to whisper them out of the blue.
