This is exactly how I feel about it. DS gives people alot more flexibility to play the game the way that they want to play it and for this reason alone I see it as a vital feature. Even if respeccing didn't have a cost it would still be a major inconvenience to the player, particularly if the player wanted to do some PvE content (DPS spec) PvP content (PvP spec) and raiding content (Tank spec) in the same day, which is a very common occurance to endgame players.

Comparing apples to oranges.
Maybe so, but BioWare have a much larger team to work with to get this done with due haste. If they can't get tasks done in even close to the same timeframe as other mmo developers, especially ones with far smaller teams, then they need to do something either about the engine itself or with their resource management because other mmo players won't be as understanding.

I think one thing people are missing is that 1.3 will contain not only the LFG tool, but ALSO the next part of Legacy unlocks.

This includes (according to the Coming Soon features seen in-game, which could change) "Field Respec" as an unlockable ability.

Not the same as Dual Spec, but once you have a group finder, the ability to respec in the field will cover much of the same immediate need to make a FP doable.

As much as I would like to have dual spec, I'd rather have server transfer and LFG tool sooner. Also, I think they should continue with the legacy stuff they've planned for 1.3. If you remember it took quite some time for you-know-which-game to have dual spec available.

They guys at BW are working hard to and they'll come up with the dual spec or multi-spec as soon as they can.

Your argument hinges on the 600 developers being able to work on the engine; not only in that they have the necessary programming skills but also that 600 developers could work in concert on one issue.

They have already explained that they have small teams working in a multitude of fields from sabbac to system optimization.

You can't expect the 3d model riggers to be working on source code or the concept artists to be programming duel spec.

The team that works specifically on a specific issue is probably comparable in size that rifts team would assign to it due to the fact that in organizations you run into a diminishing return with tech development.

sometimes 10 people get more done then 100.

I was not assuming that all of the developers could work on one issue and I am aware that they are broke into smaller teams focused on specific areas of game development. I would assume however that BioWare have a larger team focused on UI and game systems than say Rift does.

Another thing is that in todays competitive mmo market people don't want to hear excuses, they want to see results. They don't want to hear that the engine is difficult to work with which is why feature x will be delayed for 6months, they want to see it now or they will leave for the mmo that does have it. (i know 3 people testament to this, also hence the mass exodus of players from most servers.) Sure we can call them idiots or bigots or whatever, but they are paying customers and they give this game the money it needs to keep going. If BioWare can't even get these things done correctly now then what's to say it's going to get any better in the future?

Larger teams =/= More productivity in system design.

These guys have been designing games for 20 years. They have probably assigned the correct number of people to work on it. Things just take time.

I don't care about dual spec.
I survived the Patch From Hell (9/24/2013) but my subscription didn't.

Dual-spec is a luxury feature. LFD is a must at this point. If 1.3 is just the LFD than I'll be happy, unless it's server-only, that would be a huge waste.
