Lovarboy: Will we get dual spec with Game Update 1.3?

Daniel: Unfortunately, no. Game Update 1.3 is being kept a bit leaner to get the Group Finder and the next stage of Legacy in the game as fast as possible. After that we’ll be returning to some bigger updates and we’re hoping dual spec makes it for the next one.
What are peoples feelings on this?

Personally I believe it is a very foolish move on BioWares part. Public interest in this game is dwindling, especially thanks to the lack of vital features that are common place in current mmos. The longer they take to introduce these vital features the more people will have moved on or have dismissed the game entirely, and hence the more difficult it will be to get them back.

The group finder is a very exciting addition no doubt, this game has plenty of content and indeed group content that would be a great experience for multiple players. The main problem is the group content is far to inaccessable to casual players that make up the bulk of the mmo playerbase. Group finder only half solves this problem because the correct group composition is required to tackle dungeons and heroic quests, without Dual Spec people will either still spend hours waiting on that tank/healer, or have a very messy experience thanks to the sub-optimal group setup.

Surely it can't be that difficult to add something as simple as Dual Spec to the game.

Well I'd hardly call multispec a vital feature, though I really do want it. I suppose group finder should take priority (that and server transfers).

These are the sw boards. Somehow, some way, they will find a way to make this a negative. LOL

We are getting the group finder. We are getting server transfers. They are giving the community exactly what it is they have been screaming for, but here you are, OP, arguing that as negative.

These boards kill me. They should charge for this type of entertainment.
May the Schwartz be with you....

If it were "simple" it would have been in at launch. They are using a heavily modified engine, at least 80% different from the stock engine, so they are finding solutions as they go.

You have no idea how easy or difficult something is by looking at it. Even if you understand that particular source code, implementing it is another issue.

As to how I feel?

I expected something wouldn't make the cut with them rushing the dungeon finder.

I like how they cave to peoples demands about the finder and when they have to cut something else they get complaints about that.

I would enjoy dual-spec or multi-spec but as far as I'm concerned that is way down on the list of important items I feel they need to work on. When stacked up against things like cross-server Warzone queues, an LFG tool, server transfers, and redesigning Ilum I think that based on the topics that have been coming up the most lately most people here would agree with me. I could be wrong.

No, they should just make a separate board for complaints and shove all the posts like this one into it and ban anyone who doesn't post constructively on the main board.

I asked a simple question and also in no way did I imply that any of those features you mentioned were a bad thing. Next time try reading beyond the thread title.

I'm not trying to argue how difficult it is to work with the hero engine, i'm only trying to say that BioWare is a huge development studio owned by a multibillion dollar publisher so myself and many others would expect that they could quickly implement features that were available at launch in many other mmos. (Rift for example has a tiny team in comparison yet managed to have MultiSpec in for launch.)

I have a feeling that they'll make dual speccing a legacy feature i.e. if you have 2 characters at 50 you can unlock dual speccing. I mean they do want people to play the rest of the stories/classes (and people should - all of the stories that I've played so far are great)

That's not how development works. You can't just throw money at something and expect quick results.

I also have a feeling that it will be introduced as a legacy feature, which while not a terribly bad thing I can't help but feel it would be better as a core feature to help players with the levelling process. This way it would also encourage people to play alts by allowing them to use the group finder more effectively and PvP with the correct spec.
