I have been developing software, working as a systems analyst, and a network administrator for over 20 + years. I Sir, know exactly what i am talking about.

I would suggest: If you have not tried this yet:

Roll back your video card Driver to the previous Version: As stated above even your video card will sometimes handle audio packets. And you might be losing packets in the process of graphical intensities. Also your video card might just outright block the packets during graphical intense situations, and not unlocking afterwards.

After rolling back. update your driver again. Make sure to do a clean driver install. You should never install over an older driver version.

i hope this helps!
Your windows enhancements is not for windows xp so no i will not try it since it doesn't exist. Being that this is a min requirement of winxp your fix is not a fix. Its a work around.

No i will not roll back my video drivers or anything else. Its all up to date and default. Therefore no reason to.

I have read about this issue for awhile now. I have decided to do some troubleshooting of my own.
Have you attempted the following
  • Make sure your Audio drivers are up to date.
  • Make sure your DirectX is up to date.
  • Make sure your Video Card drivers are up to date. (Some video cards support HDMI Audio)

If you have done all these i would suggest you attempt the following:
On your Desktop taskbar next to your clock you will see your speaker icon.
  • Please Right Click on your Speaker icon > Select Playback Devices > Double Click the Playback Device of your choice.
  • Goto Enhancements Tab > Select Loundess Equalization > Please Click on Settings

Here you will find a slider that has a release time from when Sounds reach a certain DB or touch a certain frequency
Try reducing the Release Time to see if this fixes your issue.

If it does not please try the next step below.
  • Please go back to the playback device > Goto the Advanced Tab
  • Make sure you have selected at least 2 channel, 16 bit, 44100 Hz (CD quality)
  • Make sure you have selected to allow application to have exclusive control over the selected Device.
  • Make sure you have selected to give Exclusive Mode Applications Priority.
If the above suggestion do not resolve your issue you can attempt to disable enhancements to see if this will resolve your issue.
  • Please Right Click your Speaker > Select Playback Devices > Double Click the Playback Device of your choice.
  • Goto Enhancements Tab > Click Disable all Enhancements > Please Click Apply

I hope this helps.

I am not sure if that is OS or sound card specific but I have no 'enhancements tab'. I only have General, Levels, and Advanced (Windows 7 x64 here). After some investigation I am guessing it is card specific since my Asus Xonar Xense is General, Levels, and Advanced where as my other PC with a Creative card is General, Tone, Levels, Sound Blaster, and Advanced. Your workaround seems specific to you and your guild mates cards.

I am not sure what you mean by 'at least 2 channel, 16 bit, 44100 Hz (CD quality)' since that is generally the lowest setting available. But currently that is what mine is set to.

Both 'allow applications to take exclusive control of this device' and 'give exclusive mode applications priority' is checked.

While many people seem 'rude' in this post including myself let me remind you that it is primarily out of frustration due to Bioware ignoring the issue. It is clear many people are having this issue some have already been semi-successfully patched. So how is this a hardware configuration or windows setting issue when Bioware is very slowly acknowledging them?

Spouting off your credentials does nothing but make you look childish SIR and helps no one but I for one appreciate the attempt.

I see. I was not aware that you were running XP. I did not see that in one of your post.
If do not wish to "troubleshoot" then issue, then a lot of times you will get nowhere. Esp if you want bioware to fix something that you can only change. Bioware can not update your drivers for you. they can only make their code work with your drivers.

Sorry i couldn't help you though.

Okay. I changed nothing from 1.1.5 to 1.2. Further, the problem existed for me on the PST running 1.2, but not on the live servers at the time. Once 1.2 went live, the problem existed for me on the live servers. The problem I'm experiencing is the one that causes the volume to fluctuate wildly during Space Missions.

Here is my DXDiag:

I will edit my previous Post to Show that the suggestion is for Winows 7. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
Furthermore; I know a lot of us would like to believe that our machines couldn't possibly be the issue. And with a lot of problems 90% of them are within the coding. The other 10% are dependent on things only customizable on client side. Hence, why the 10% is attempted to be ruled out. Once ruled out it helps direct attention to the correct coding block to determine the issue.

Some Playback devices will not have the Enhancement tab, this is something that is only supported depending on the playback device. (ie: Turtle Beach headset, PS3 compatibility headsets, etc.)

PS: A person that tells you that you need to eat certain foods, drink certain drinks, etc to help you lose weight might seem like useless information. However; if you know that person is a doctor and knows what he is talking about. You might just heed his/her advice. This is the only reason why i mentioned my experience with hardware/software. But i do thank you for pointing that out.

As always, Have a nice day

If do not wish to "troubleshoot" then issue, then a lot of times you will get nowhere. Esp if you want bioware to fix something that you can only change. Bioware can not update your drivers for you. they can only make their code work with your drivers.

Sorry i couldn't help you though.
I'm going to stop you right here. You just need to stop posting your "work arounds". I do NOT need to update my drivers. My drivers were all up to date 1.1.5 and they are still up to date 1.2. I do NOT need to roll back my drivers because the game is supposed to be up to date with the drivers since they were working fine for 1.1.5. I do NOT need to troubleshoot with your steps because your steps are focusing on windows and not the game itself. If nothing has changed but the patch 1.2 coming out why are you being so naive? Its something Bioware needs to adjust and fix. Not something a customer has to fix thats fully up to date. Follow? For a troubleshooter and software developer or whatever youre quite clueless to the fact that Bioware missed something with their patch. It was on the PTS server and reported as well which goes to show for a person who "read alot on this issue" you ignored most if not all of it.

Thank you for your reponse it was helpful. As far as what i said being only a windows issue. You are quite correct. However; if you were aware of how windows handles certain protocols then you would at least give my suggestion a try. If you do not. Then Please do not. I really do not need you trolling me cause of your anger. Like i said before, this suggestion has corrected the issue for 4-6 of my guildmates. It probably does have something to do with bioware's coding. Like i mentioned before, bioware can't change your drivers for you. so if the issue is that your driver is attaching then releasing the path and not reattaching, or not attaching itself to directed area for the sound output at all, then a fresh install of the driver will look for the correct path.

I'm sorry you are angry for my attempt to help you.

Am I supposed to read over all 46 pages to post my problem? Guess not.
I run SWTOR on 2 brand new PC bought 2 months ago, with different graphic cards (550 and 6950).
Before 1.2, everything was fine.
After 1.2, my sound/music will go off after a while. It happens faster if you entered an FP/OP due to more sound effects coming in. Still pretty fine for me other than the COMPLETE SILENCE.
Afer 1.2.1, things get worse. Instead of silence, still no sound/music, but I keep hearing scratching noise and it becomes more frequent the longer I played. It get worse and worse the more I stayed in FP/OP or fighting mobs.
Then these noises start to lag my PC severely.
I thought it was my PC's fault so I switch to the other PC. Fine in the beginning then same thing happened.

I need to restart my PC to reset the problem. But it still keep amplifying the scratching noise when more sound effects are played and they accumulate ... then more and more lag.

This happens to many other guildies in the operation too. You may miss the noise if you have a speaker, not a earphone/headphone. If I turn off all the sound option in SWTOR, no lag. This happens without ventrillo.

I find it hard to concentrate to play especially in an operation with complete silence.
I guess something is very wrong with the sound playing queue, such as resources not cleaned up after used, thus causing an extremely low performance after more sounds are played. You can notice the acceleration in an FP/OP by fighting mobs with a lot of sound effects.
Something needs to be done quickly.
