Honestly OP after reading your post it doesn't really sound like your mad that you missed the event but more mad that BW didn't play the game for you. What did you do fly to Tatooine exit your ship and say "Oh no new quest here time to go back to dailies"? As soon as you exit the spaceport there is a giant Terminal Screen that tells you whats going on, at least on the imp side, travel another 500 ft straight ahead and you find a crowd of containment officers with their weapons drawn on a group of civi's. Its not like these civi's are just sitting around like some other NPC's, no every 60 sec one of them explodes and turns into a Rakgoul. This alone should have been enough for you to take a look at the general chat or maybe even ask a question about what was going on.

Personaly I love that BW didnt say anything til after the event launch I completely enjoyed spending the first day of the event figuring out everything about it, but you it sounds like wont be happy unless BW runs your toon out to the quest area, kills the mobs, collects the quest objectives, then turns them in to collect the rewards.

I kinda have to agree to a point with the OP, the event itself was imo pretty poorly orchestrated, server resets get a larger fanfare, the website was behind the times by almost a week and the ingame story/event support stuff is/was rather basic to say the least and not very coherent eg; major rhakgoul outbreak unconfirmed beyond taris system-> confirmed in multiple imperial, republic and unaligned systems -> unconfiirmed rhakgoul outbreak beyond taris system rinse and repeat.

I know the game is new, but crikey this rhakgoul thing really constitues an in-game event? My character(s) is supposed to be some sort of insta-hero yet the mundane NPCs and all my companions are completely immune to this rhakgoul plague.. go figure.

In my opinion it is essentially a deterent to using fleet GTN and a bit of Tatooine. Had the plague and supporting content been progressive then it could have been so much better, but it is/was a one off thing thus little more than a gimmick with a crystal and/or vanity pet shoe-horned in masquerading as event level content.

Treat it like a gimmick and its not so bad, look at it as an ingame event and its prettty lackluster. Examples of effective plague-esque 'events'; Corrupted Blood from WoW (accident or intended is irrelevant), pre-launch buildup for Wrath, both of those were far better than this, events in general: player created and dev supported events in SWG and lets not forget the mundane run of the mill standard zone-rift spawns in Rift they're better and more compelling than this rhakgoul plague 'event'.

I just cant help feeling no matter what I do in this game, it seems to have missed out on the last 6+ years of MMO design 'advancements', it's almost as if the devs (be that Bioware or EA or LA etc etc) seem to have been in hibernation or some form of enforced social exclusion for the past few years and are now constantly trying to reinvent the wheel at every opportunity and I'm not sure why.

SWTOR felt for once like an MMO should feel like, so I hope that BioWare will continue to do events they same way and not going to hold our hands.
My favorite part was the world bosses and having to fight outnumbered against the imps. While I wasnt able to get the title it was a blast. I hope they do more things like this also.

Another fun part was how they added to it everyday. We got more of the story each time. Well done I say.

I can understand where your coming from OP, but a simple "Hey guys why am I infected?" or "Whats happening on Tatooine" would of cleared any confusion up for you.

I'm going to be completely honest here, so sorry if I step on any toes.
If you've somehow missed this event, it's because:

a) You play an MMO as a singleplayer game. If you play it as an MMO you'd have at least a few friends who could tell you about the event if you bothered to ask. Are you even in a guild? SOMEONE must've known about the event.

b) You are completely oblivious to what "In character" and "Immersion" means. If you stay off Tatooine because a news feed told you stuff's going on there, you're not much of the "Hero" material this game aims for in a character

c) You don't really -want- to keep up on the news about what's happening in the game. If you had real interest in any events, you'd check the forums, check the fansites, check your guild forums. I'm sure someone there knew about the event and could help you.

An in game event is, in my opinion, supposed to work like this one did. You are not supposed to have a purple arrow on the ground pointing you to wherever the action is. That would destroy the idea of creative thinking. If you're curious about something, ask in the general channel. If you want to take part in events, find some friends and ask them about what's going on here or there. It really isn't that difficult to take part.

There was info on website, threads in forum, info kiosks on the fleet, spoke info on the fleet, infected players everywhere talking about event and buying/selling rakghoul dna samples, plenty of containment troopers on the fleet and all planets entrances ... and yet, you still didn('t know that there was an event. Well ... be a little bit more social and next time you will not miss it.

But it's no big deal. In real life, you too don't know about everything until you somehow get to it. And MMO should be like "real life" with these events etc.
