Fed Up With Weekly Downtimes

IAnyone know why they require weekly maintenance times?

For our new players, this weekly maintenance is done in order to make general improvements and to check performance of the game so that we can continue to provide a consistent, quality experience.

A day is 24 hrs. Its down 4 hrs. How is that half a day?

This is for the birds. Either they figure out how to stagger the server downtimes (like you know, any other corporate IT department in the world), or I will find a new game. I count at least seven MMOs coming out in the next four months, all of which are cheaper than SWTOR.

I really enjoy SWTOR. I've been playing since release, and I've been very patient with these weekly maintenance downtimes. Hey, it's a new game that was probably released a bit early, but it's been out a solid 4 months now with no sign that they are going to start scaling these back.

I'm a West coast dad with 3 kids and a wife. I don't start playing until 10 - 10:30 pm on the 3 nights a week that I let myself play. Unfortunately, one of those nights is Monday night which falls on their schedule every damn week. And with my luck, another night is Thursday which also had maintenance last week. Very frustrating indeed.

Anyone know why they require weekly maintenance times? This is my 5th MMO (DAOC, WOW, WHO, Rift), and none of the others were down like this. And why can't they start it in the wee hours of the night at say 2 - 4 am? Midnight is still relatively early.

Anyway, as much fun as I'm having with SWTOR, this maintenance is close to chasing me away. Has BW given any indication that this is a temporary deal, or is this maybe not the game for my schedule?

Whats unacceptable is you lying about downtime. It is not usually 2 or more nights. One week before the 1.2 patch they didnt go down period for the entire week. I think if this bothers you that badly maybe you should cancel. I mean seriously its 4 hours.

It's not half a day. It's a whole day.

I have a job, unlike you who no doubt are still at school and are getting it paid for by your mum.

With this job, I receive money, and this is used to pay for my subscription, among other things. To maintain this job, I have to get up in the morning. And I get home around 5 - 6 pm.

Guess what? My play hours for a given day are 5pm - 10pm. Which coincides with the time the servers are down.

So the downtime might as well be 24 hours as far as I am concerned. And when it happens multiple times in a week (3 of the last 7 days, for example), I come home to play the game I am paying regularly for only to be told I cannot.

Well, given that ther's games like Second Life that has NO global downtimes, it can be done. shoot, Bioware was BRAGGING before release that they got this new system in place that would allow them to do maintenence and patches WITHOUT ANY DOWNTIME.

Especially considering that you have a game where almost all fo it's on your computer, shouldn't need weekly downtime. should be kicked off your server, download the patch, back on. If there HAS to be some downtime, then no more than 15 minutes. 4 hours is too long.
