I actually LIKED that there wasn't anything telling you where to go in great detail. Cause then you've got to ask around and investigate. I mean, it is an MMO. Working with other players is part of the whole idea.
I suppose getting a lyrium tattoo of breasts on my chest would make things better...

Personally i cant wait for the next one, Im sure they will grant Artifice another new lightsaber or Enhancement schematic, then open it up so everyone can get a better one free, via some stupid daily.
Miss the memo about biochem being the only relevent prof?

Theres really nothing worth buying crafted besideds aug gear

In most MMO's, The dev's make events that require the community to come together and solve it as a group. Honestly one person isn't even suppose to find everything themselves in these kinds of evens. Its something for the entire community. I know you said this is your first MMO, however this is a common thing in ALL MMO's. They don't EVER hold your hand on events, quests, missions, raids, whatever. They always leave everything up to the community to solve.

I thought the anouncment on the fleet every 5 min, the DNA sample message and the terminals showing the news report, as well as the post on the front webpage was perfect. It told us that an even was here, What planet to find it on, and what kind of mobs to look for. That's simply what MMO's do, all of them. If you could figure it all out in 5 min then your not playing an MMO. Events would be a LOT harder for them to create if they had to add things to every single planet. They will always use the main city/ship/nation to announce it.

Not being negative, just pointing out from experience that this is how Community based MMO's work. All of them. And it is simply what you should expect on future events.

I think the Rakghoul event would have been more enjoyable for a greater number of participants with the following changes:

1. Obvious feeder quest.

2. Linear progression

3. Less restrictive daily progression (ie. allow completion of the newly unlocked daily, PLUS all previously unlocked dailies each day. (this allows everyone to complete the event, not just the people who started early)

4. Get rid of RNG reward selection.(no one needs 6 Corso Riggs customization kits)

There are a huge number of first time MMO players in this game, as well as a huge number of casual players...BW needs to take this fact into consideration when designing these events.
I certainly agree with the first three suggestions. I have no comment on the 4th.

Most MMOs utilize feeder quests which are practically inescapable in order to kick off the event.

Subsequently they usually run a linear quest storyline which contains the main plot points and guides the player through obvious references to the other area or daily quests included for the event.

I'm sorry i just don't agree with 2 or 3. 1 isn't a terrible idea just to let ppl know the its going on, but i LIKE having to figure it out. Being told go here, now here, now here, now here, HERE IS YOUR REWARD, is not my idea of a good quest and isn't fun. Also i like the idea of the daily progression quests. However in this case i think the quests should stay perm in the game, and just remove the DNA, Vendor, and plague.

sigh.
FFXI was fantastic. Spending 1-2 years getting a single gear set gave it MEANING. You put that piece of gear on and you found GOOD. An entirely different level of joy getting gear in that game then ANY other. And having a mob in the game that was almost invincible (Absolute Virtue) was great too. Hate when everything is figured out 8 hours they are added ><

Sounds like you mainly missed the boat by not logging into game for a few days, and then missed the rest by not paying attention or speaking to other players (or even just looking at general chat once you landed on Tat).

You also seem to have found the forum to complain, but not to read news or stickies or all the posts about the event sharing info as players found it.

Oh well, keep an eye out for the next one, maybe join an active guild or something as that was yet another channel of information for me during the outbreak. I agree they could have improved matters by having the news screens in all Cantinas and spaceports maybe, but that would still have only told you which planet to go to.

I liked that there was no hand holding from BioWare! Had a blast the last week, enjoyed the community on my server, that peopel helped each other, answered questins regarding the event, build operation groups to get the world bosses done, and of course open world PvP! SWTOR felt for once like an MMO should feel like, so I hope that BioWare will continue to do events they same way and not going to hold our hands.
