Make the maintenances any later and you start to encroach into EU prime-time and the current maintenance times aren't too EU friendly as is.

Pretty much this.

The weekly downtimes for SWTOR aren't any worse than for WoW imho.
WoW's maintenance times are always getting extended, too.

Rose colored glasses maybe?

I have a lot of issues with SWTOR, but the length of weekly maintenance isn't one of them.

The tone of the replies was expected, as it's the norm on MMO forums. Maturity level seems to be capped at 15 regardless of the age of the poster.

It's possible that in the 4 other MMOs that I played, I just got lucky with my play times not falling on the maintenance cycles. That said, I was more of a junky back in the day, so I would be surprised that I wouldn't have noticed it at some point. Truth be told, I didn't really play WOW until the Lich King, so it was an established game at that point. I did play Rift & WHO at release though, and those games did not have weekly down times for maintenance.

It seems to me that they would be better served to schedule these maintenance times differently for each timezone. So all PST servers would have their maintenance at 3 am, just like the East coasters enjoy now. Seems like a reasonable solution.

If people want a less buggy and more improved game, they're just going to have to deal with the maintenance. :P

Sure, but why midnight? Why not the middle of the night for each timezone? It makes sense that they'd inconvenience as few people as possible. My server is still hoppin at midnight PST. By 2 am, it's slowed waaay down.

I'm a West coast dad with 3 kids and a wife. I don't start playing until 10 - 10:30 pm on the 3 nights a week that I let myself play. Unfortunately, one of those nights is Monday night which falls on their schedule every damn week. And with my luck, another night is Thursday which also had maintenance last week. Very frustrating indeed.

Anyone know why they require weekly maintenance times? This is my 5th MMO (DAOC, WOW, WHO, Rift), and none of the others were down like this. And why can't they start it in the wee hours of the night at say 2 - 4 am? Midnight is still relatively early.

Anyway, as much fun as I'm having with SWTOR, this maintenance is close to chasing me away. Has BW given any indication that this is a temporary deal, or is this maybe not the game for my schedule?
The downtime starts at 2 am central which is server time

Lets see, I've only been playing since February, COUNTING Patch 1.2 and all the maintenance days over about 10 weeks is what, 11-12 days?? Remember we had one week when the patch went live that did not have regular maintenance, but had some downtime the next day(oh, and we were given a free day for it).

So that's a maintenance "day"(which is anywhere from 3-8 hours, mostly 3-4 hrs) 1.15 times per week.

You just happen to remember the 3 times in 2 weeks which is 1.5 per week or also known as a freak occurence....

Its alot easier to patch the all the servers in one swipe then it is to do them in clusters. As far for the choice of time for the maintenance, Im sure they ran the numbers and that was the time that affected the least amount of players.

I understand your frustration tho, I work overnights witg Tue/Fri off and maintenance always seem to punch me right in the jaw.

Again, why does every server have to be at 2 am central? That's wonderful for central and eastern time zones, but it blows for many around the globe. LIke I said, having played 4 MMOs over the past decade, I've never ran into this with any other game.
