I only found out about this a couple days ago, been playing on a Alt of mine that has a ship so i have no need to go to the fleet, nor am i in a guild because i don't play it very often.

They should not have events rely on people going on the site every day, there is not much need to go onto the site everyday as most information you need is in the launcher when you start up the game, it should say so on the launcher that there is an event and for more info check the forums.

Or some sort of message when you log in, a box in the mid of the screen that says "Blah blah event check site for info" or some mail that does the same.

This is the games first event, which should have been advertised up the wazoo for a week, instead its just blended in the back like a shy kid at a party.

Love this one...

But that is how everyone can tell the Population of their server, by how many people on are the fleet.
See you need to be in the fleet all the time so people can count how many are on the server.

Im guessing the OP plays with all chat off...

Because its been discussed in general chat on all planets ive been on since the start of the event, thats even how i found out about the event.
Everyone was talking about it.

And then there was the announcements on the Fleet... both the news stand and the speakers telling everyone to stay away from tatooine because of the outbreak.

But i guess thats not enough for the OP, he needs to get a personal whisper (because an in-game e-mail might not be noticed by him either) from the devs apparantly.

Seriously, if you HAVE played the game these last days and not heard anything about the event (and even got infected without noticing it) then its your own fault.

I was passing through the fleet and heard the news and the warning to stay away from Tatooine. So I stayed away, and stayed away from the fleet after that too.

I can see what the op is saying. I come to the forums most every day. Visit the fleet most every day. But I didn't know what was really going on until 2-3 days after things had started. The fleet message tells you to stay away from Tatooine. I went there anyway thinking that if there was something to do, there would be a relevant npc near the starting area of the planet. I didn't see any new quests. I didn't even notice the new containment npcs at first as it has been a while since I've been to Tatooine. So I turned around and left. My server is low population and there isn't any chatter to speak of in any chat channel. Then a couple of days later I saw a thread in here where someone was complaining that there wasn't enough time left in the event to get all the gear, or something to that effect. So I then googled it and found a site with a map showing where to trigger the questline in the dune sea. I wondered how in the world someone is supposed to stumble across a quest out in the middle of nowhere in the dune sea on a planet they're warning you to stay away from anyway. So, I'm with the op, unless I missed something obvious I think they need to do a better job of letting us know what is going on in game. I shouldn't have to obsessively check the web and hope I catch this or that someone may or may not have mentioned in a forum or blog or on a website. As it was, on my server, if I hadn't saw that thread, I may have completely missed the event. As it is, I should still be able to get the pet, but I would have liked to had the time to get the crystal too.

In just about 2 days of playing, I was able to get both pets and a crystal. I farmed the heck out of getting infected and killing myself for 5 DNA samples.

Personally, I found lack of any offcial information in first day or two of event great. Because you know, event, new things, nobody knows what to do, players had to come together and pool their knowledge, and it really took them by surprise.
If they did announce it beforehand, it would be more "Oh, I might log in today and check out that rakghoul festival", less "Holy crap, what's going on here"
But well, that's just me.

One of the BEST thing they did with the event was slipping it in, I absolutely loved logging in and people in guild and in general ask "whats going on" on the first day.

I still have people in guild who dont participate, one asked me the other day if it was worth doing.... well thats up to you/him, I cant say if it is. I linked him the green back crystal but he didnt seem that bothered since colours didnt look that nice in cannons.

If you miss the event Id have to say your playing as single player or you dont go to fleet how can you miss the announcement, people exploding into a pool of green goo or the new news terminals?
