Portal 2, like Left 4 Dead, was published by EA. EA is the largest publisher in the video game market to my knowledge and they've put out a couple of Valve's games in the past. They likely negotiated having Portal 2 on Origin as part of that publishing deal.

I don't think they will lose anything large enough to matter when those games come out. People will flock to them to try them out, but not leave this game completely. It will be the same story too. The most vocal group will just complain about how X option is a copy from N game. Then they will get bored and complain about what the game lacks.
You either didn't read what i said or you misunderstood my point,

The point is... why limit your market share?

Theirs more positives then negatives by opening up to other digital distributors

Pro: More customers, More Revenue, Higher EA stock value

Cons: The people who would never use your service and not play your game now can

You don't have to download Origin to download TOR, so I don't really see the point of this argument....

No your right, however you do have to log onto EA website to buy it digitally, and some people have the opinion that unless they can buy from their digital distributor they won't do it, period...

That seems like a very very silly reason not to download a game you might otherwise want....

These are gamers- some of the most irrational people there are. Are you really surprised by this?

From the SWTOR website:

Will I be able to order Star Wars: The Old Republic through other third party digital download sources?

Digital copies of Star Wars: The Old Republic are available exclusively through Origin.com.

You still have to buy it from Origin. So the OP's question is valid.

Not really if you think about it, some digital distributors are in favor of giving out games for actual value and try to be innovative. EA has a stigma about squeezing you for every cent you have. Platform specfically used games have been the biggest hot topic in the past year. EA has announced you have to buy a special pass from them if you don't buy there game new to access certain content from there games (cerberus pass ME2). Moves like this show that EA is all about money, and it make sense that this would entice and anger a certain audience

Steam provides constant sales on their catalog, they promote future games that are on their catalog, their interface is easy to use and you can delete and download games years later at no cost and as a by product they have the 4.6 million live streaming customers as a result

This post isn't to suggest origins is good or bad, its to suggest opening up there digital distribution, and what side effects that would have on this game
That doesn't really answer my question. Do you believe there are people out there who do not know of SWTOR because it is not on Steam?? Remember you are talking about Steam users, who by default are at least minimally savvy PC gamers.

This is not B&M Retail exclusivity. It's the internet. It's not some quiet unknown upstart company trying to get in the public eye.

It's Star Wars.

All I know is if I needed to use Origin I would not be playing TOR.

I refuse to have that on my computer.
