Yes, exactly. My question, in it's original wording, was a follow up to that previous taunt question. It was great to see a clear official explanation of what taunt does, but it made me wonder how our de-taunts work in comparison. And, as long as I was asking about the subject, I wanted to fish for any other threat related info the devs might be willing to share.

Knowledge (correct knowledge) is your best asset in these games. Just because a lot of people assume they know how something works, doesn't mean they have quite the right answer. A good example of this is the two-roll attack mechanic this game uses. I never would have guessed it works that way.

I thank the devs for answering this question, as well as that huttball question. These are the critical tidbits of info that we the players need to know about. These are the things that allow us to become better at playing the game.

Today I see people here complaining about the questions that were answered. But to those people I have to ask, have you actually tried reading these Question threads? It will lower your IQ. That last Question thread (that these questions were taken from) had about 15 pages of /facepalm before I gave up reading it. People asking questions that were JUST ANSWERED in that same day's Q&A. People asking for stuff rather than about stuff. Simply put, the devs don't exactly have much in the way of quality questions to work with. They want to answer 10 questions. This week we got 9. That should tell you something.

Keldain: Love the stuff for 1.2! I think you guys are doing a great job on addressing the issues of the community. Just one thing I would really like an update on: is there any movement on getting an option to toggle hoods on and off?

Damion Schubert (Principal Lead Systems Designer): This is totally in the plan, but we are unsure at this time when it will get to you.
So funny. Ho long have we been asking about this.Actually the first posts about this started 2 years ago on the forum.
I know because i was one of the people who made a post about the issue with alot of people talking about it.
And it's still not in the game. Pretty clear at this point they just dont know how to do it.

Can we please see an Update to the C.E. Vendor? With how you guys mentioned 1.3 we might get a certain "friend" from the classic Kotor Game prehaps we could go retro with the vendor?

Maybe a unique color crystal(and I don't mean a black core or anything) Something fancy, Like Viridian, or maybe a Orange core Yellow? (Heart of the Guardians) or full on Black?(Its in the game files)

Gizka Pet.

A certain set of robes and mask so we can dress in respect to our favorite jedi/sith who happens to make a appearance in The Foundry?

Maybe some companion customizations in the VIP to balance out some who have 0 while Kem Val has 14 in the game.

Actually, that may be your purpose, but these Q&A's have never been limited to "current game mechanics" and that's never been a stated purpose for the questions.

My own question asked for clarification on Threat mechanics. I know it's a generic question, but I am a raid tank. I need and want to have a good official understanding of how threat works. I don't want to ask random player #9,873 how it works for this particular game. A google search or a player answer will consist of how random people assume it works, or how it worked in some other game not made by Bioware.

The answer they gave me wasn't quite as detailed as I had hoped for, but it did add clarification on a few things. Between the answer given, as well as the raid combat logs I have been generating on both my Tank and my Sniper, I am beginning to understand where tank threat problems are coming from.

I have just obtained some very valuable information today that's going to come in handy going forward.

"Given that Bioware has answered a number of questions regarding upcoming features,I'd say that the Q&A is for asking Questions and getting Dev answers. Of all the questions asked, I was least interested by the answer to yours, and fact is, so are a lot of others players. I like knowing what Bioware plans to do with the game, and I'm fine with the 'when we get to it' answer, as long as I know it's on the list of things they plan to do."

"So I don't think it's any poster's place to say that anyone has less rights than anyone else to ask any question they want within Bioware's guidelines."

BlackMink: Could you please explain SWTOR's threat mechanics? What exactly do the de-taunt abilities do, and how exactly is threat generated? Is threat directly related point for point to the damage you do, or does each individual ability generate a pre-set amount of threat?

Cameron Winston (Combat Designer): Threat is calculated based on damage done, plus or minus certain modifiers, with one damage translating directly into one point of threat. These modifiers are always called out in the abilities which adjust them. For example, Soresu Form increases your threat generation globally, while Crushing Blow or Hilt Strike specifically generates extra bonus threat when activated.

De-taunt abilities reduce your threat level by a flat percentage of its current value. Healing generates less threat than damage and is split evenly among all enemies you are currently fighting.
Based on my own experiences in the game, I find this hard to believe and would love if you can clarify a bit more.

A while back there was one threat theory floating around that threat was based on each tick of damage done on a boss [e.g. each time you see a number over mob's head, no matter what that number is, it is equal to 1 threat (+/- modifiers)]. This theory helped explain why classes like Marauders and Sorcerers pulled a lot more than others despite not being top DPS. As an experiment, I decided to use ONLY RAPID SHOTS on some boss pulls to put the theory to the test because it had multiple damage "ticks" per GCD. I did this for an entire Hard Mode EV run and found that it worked surprisingly well, rarely needing to taunt or use any other abilities to hold aggro. My guild leader and I did more testing and ultimately disproved the theory that 1 tick of damage = 1 threat, but that is beside the point.

If threat is directly related to the numerical value of damage done, why could I hold aggro with the base level 1 "auto-attack" ability? It certainly isnt my highest damage per GCD ability.
