Server population is dropping...

Started playing Tera last night. I really like the SWTOR game play, but it's too much a single player RPG.
I think the problem is the developers dont understand MMOs and PvP. They understand story lines, and can create good graphics and game play, for single player RPGs. Still, there is time to fix it. The longer this population problem persists, the worse off the game will be. BTW, SWTOR is getting a reputation in the gaming world for being a good single player game. Some people like that. and feel that having other people around, strangers, is a problem.

I myself tend to be the type that once I quit, I never come back and any change made after that is too little too late. With that said, I'm still happy with the game for the most part. I thik the Bioware devs, for the most part, deserve kudos for a game well done. There are some aspects that deserve criticism though.

Server transfers may help some, but it's not a "cure all". I for one will not pay for a server transfer and I'm not keen on rerolling toons that I've already invested a significant time in.

Server merges could certainly help some as well, but again, it's a temporary bandaid solution. At least with server merges you have a chance at a higher pop and once the same server LFG tool comes out, there will be some added convenience to forming groups. I still believe the queues will be long though on many if not most servers, that its affect on retention will be minimal at best (I'm sure it will be fantastic on high pop servers though).

Speaking solely for myself (though I've talked to many in my now dead guild of 175 people who agree), if there is no cross server LFG/LFR tool by the time I finish all 8 class stories (end of the year at present rate) and if my 50's still have trouble getting groups in a reasonable amount of time, I will be gone and any change after that will be too little, too late for me.

As for the discussion by others on 1.2, just to throw out some 'anecdotal evidence', my Republic Server consistently had about 50 people on fleet during peak times before 1.2 came out. For a few days after, it spiked up to the 60-70 range. The last few days, it's back down to around 40. My Imperial Server on the other hand has remained steady between 150 and 180 depending upon the time of night. And some would say that Imp server is dead. In that case, what is my Repub server? LOL. Make of the above what you will...
Could not agree more.

They dropped the ball AND called the whistle. They really, REALLY need to pick up the slack and impress a lot of people, or they are going to lose LOTS of subs come the next couple months.

Hell, I'm already psyched to give TERA open beta a try this weekend. It's open beta today.

We've confirmed that it is BS. Classical case of garbage in, garbage out. I, personally, am fairly skeptical of the intentions of those who choose to spread this "analysis" further.

If I'm going to reroll and start from Level 1, it is going to be on a different game with a company that shows more knowledge and foresight than what Bioware/EA did with SWTOR.

Transfers need to be free, and they need to be here yesterday.

TERA Open Beta
D3 Open Beta
WoW: MOP Closed Beta

all three are options to me from this weekend forward, and all three are free of charge.
Rank 80 Sith Assassin Darkness
The Crucible Pits
Antyrael

How's the game so far? I watched it @ PAX East and got an Open Beta key, but have yet to try it out myself.

Looks very, very promising though.

Edit: Just made an account. Going to download it for when I get home.

the combat is a little tricky and needs some time to get used to it, not your typical point and click. Other then that, it's beautiful, zero lag, no instancing as far as I have seen, which is minimal. Give it a shot this weekend, it's free. The preorder does include a level 11 mount and it's only $10.00 more then the base product.

You are putting words in my mouth. I never said the increase in player activity was due to a sudden increase in subscriptions. What I did say is that the increase in actvity means 1.2 was not a "slap in the face" to the majority of the player community. We understand you and others are unhappy, but the majority of players seem happy, judging by the increase in activity (and remember that the majority of players do not partake on the forums).

And this thread went from 1 to over 400 in less than 5 hours.
So let me get this right? Your hypothesis is that because of massive rage over 1.2, BioWare gave the players 30 days of free play as sort of a bribe to keep them from leaving?

I don't think you understand what kind of gamers represent the overwhelming majority of the 1.7 million subscription base. But rather than speculate, we will hopefully have updated subscription numbers announced in the Q4 2012 earnings call and then we will know for sure (unless you belong to the group of players who claim EA is lying in its earnings reports).

Quit putting alacrity and accuracy on every piece of end-game gear, they aren't good stats.

In return people will stop canceling their subs.

Quit ignoring issues that cause players unable to play the game.
And actually address what is wrong with this game.
In return, people will stop canceling their subs.
