I take it you joined after the CU.

Because if you played SWG though beta, launch, and into the upgrade, you would know what a remarkable tragedy that game was. I find it hard to believe that anyone who remembers SWG's potential and how badly that game was utterly ruined would talk about it in positive terms.

Some people here claim to have been SWG players. Unless you were a CH/Doc with a house on Lok and a camping spot overlooking the Krayts who lost everything you thought was awesome about your character so that a group of new arsehole players could play Jedi, you know nothing about SWG or the monumental nature of its failure.

SWG was revamped to death. Good ideas made sour by a lame cash grab.

Two comments:

1) swg was designed one way with particular themes in mind. SWTOR was designed in a different way, with different particular themes. Nothing was trashed except SWG by years of abuse at the hands of Sony. Your argument and distain rests with Sony, not Bioware.

2) Nothing prevents Bioware from integrating SWG-lik sanbox style design themes or features into this game down the road. As long as anything they add does not destroy what already exists (and I trust the designers here, and distrust any forum armchair critic). They just need to insert new planets with specific theme and design. It would be a foolish thing to do at launch, but may in fact add value at some point in the future.
When you find yourself surrounded by hostile Clowns... always go for the "Juggler" first.

Take whatever you want. Believe whatever you want. I played from launch until the last day; I still preferred what that game was and became to what this one is. And don't ever presume to tell me what I know.

Sorry, but game recognize game, and you were looking a little unfamiliar.

SWG was plagued with bugs, combat inadequacies, imbalances, failed professions (Architect, anyone?), and just when they had the chance to smooth it all out, they re-vamped it and removed all of the coolest and most innovative features.

Don't tell me you were happy when they stripped your mixed classes and replaced them with a lame, single-class approach in an attempt to make SWG appeal to Warcraft players.

What people don't seem to get is that SWTOR isn't a sequel to SWG. It's an entirely different game run by entirely different people, and that's why we see none of the features carried over. That said, not even most of the SWG features that made parts of it unique and awesome were carried over to the updated post-CU SWG.

Not even remotely true. We're on the forums because we're stuck at work and can't play. The devs have already responded to the issue and their plans for fixing it, ie server transfers.

This guy! ^^

The CU killed SWG, and the last nail in the coffin was the NGE (where over 80% of the players left). SOE killed SWG.

The pre-CU was almost the perfect game...I miss it, a lot. And SWTOR is nowhere near it. At the moment. If it lasts...it might be, one day.

God you people are insufferable *****....GOD FORBID SOMEONE HAVE AN OPINION THAT CLASHES WITH YOURS!

Guess what! I loved SWG, swg was a pretty fun game and was one of the last games that punished you screwing up (item decay, rez sickness etc etc not like EQ's corpse run)

Not most MMOs just ***** pat you and tell you its ok...just rez back at a specific point with no sickness at all yay

Jesus *********** christ...atleast SWG was challenging...TOR isnt challenging...ever *********** stood outside Mos Eisley trying to hit something the first time with your untrained weapon? No? THEN **** OFF! TOR is full of kids of the "pampered" age of MMOs where death isnt a problem and if you miss more than once you cry THIS CLASS SUCKS BUFF PLEASE!

As far as I am concerned...SWG is still superior due to the number of years its been going, crafting system and open world-ness. Maybe TOR can beat it...but it'll have to get off its high chair.
As of right now, i'm rash free.

Saying SWG was "perfect" in any sense for any time period is seriously stretching it. It had its charm, but it was a very flawed game in many many ways.

I played from launch off and on through to the end. I preferred the NGE side of the game less for the changes in leveling structure (Because I was a pure crafter before the NGE and a pure crafter after), but more for what was added to the game.

The Pre-CU combat system was atrocious, Hands-down. Queuing up abilities, then walking away? No thanks. For me, the game that died out in December was far and away superior to anything TOR is offering.
Long time player of SWG from cradle to grave. First Kettemoor, then Starsider.
