I've paid my money from the start, play casually and won't get the reward?

What a slap in the face.

I was pondering on cancelling my subscription, but my mind is now clearly made up.
If you were only sticking around in the hope that you would get an extra free month of playtime, then this game probably isn't for you. I've said it before, and I'll continue saying it to all the people who really dislike this game (or any other game). It's a freaking game. You play it because you enjoy it. Nobody is holding a gun to your head. If you like playing the game, great. If you don't, there are other games out there.

It's hilarious how difficult some people find it to stop playing a game. I've done it with Aion, LotRO, AoC, and Warhammer once I got bored with those MMOs. I've even gone back to some of them after a year or two to give them another go. Instead of complaining and whining about how much I didn't enjoy them, I went and looked for other games to try out. If I don't enjoy a game, I won't play it. I'm not sure why such a large chunk of the gaming population doesn't get that. It's almost like they enjoy being unhappy.

Lol I never sad I was sticking around because of the free playtime. I enjoy the game but I'm being treated like a second-class citizen just because I can't play alot. They clearly can't be bothered looking after casuals so why stick around.

Rewarding loyalty isn't about rewarding people who play alot. Its about rewarding people who pay the bills.

The wording of the promotion was poorly thought out and the result of players not meeting the requirements for it feeling slighted is understandable. If that players reaction to it is to unsubscribe, more power to you. I can't fault you for that.

I too was one who felt slighted by this, not enough to unsubscribe because I still really enjoy my limited time in game. I just couldn't wrap my head around why certain playstyles were being rewarded above others, when it's all the same subscription cost regardless of how much one plays.

That's when I came to the conclusion that it wasn't about loyalty at all, no matter how the promo was presented. It's about customer retention. This makes me no less uneasy though, because whether you unsubscribe now due to feeling undervalued, or one does it later after a free 30 days because they still are unsatisfied with the lack of end game, it still has the same result. It's another subscription lost, which is money lost for BW, which could be a loss of a game for me that I still enjoy playing.

The potential cost for EA/Bioware for the free month is negligible compared to the long term loss of subscriptions its designed to ward off.
Meanwhile, in Tera general chat -

"The sad thing is, arguing with fanbois on the forums was more entertaining than their 300 million dollar single player MMO from 2008"

Take a step back and look at the cost to us over the past 115 days. We payed for a broken game at launch, then we payed for them to rip it apart overtime. FINALLY, we get the full release two days ago ($120 into our investment, $270 if you wasted it on the CE) and a bunch of broken promises (looking at rated warzones and "bug fixes") left to be fulfilled. How much did that cost US?

The least they can do is give us a free month for the trouble we went to trying to make this better.

This slew of screw-ups is just the icing on the cake and the reason why this game will die if it doesn't pick up the pace. 30-days free time is a sign of defeat, next will come server merges, and before you know it SWTOR will be a shadow of WAR.

And ignore what drove them to such a drastic decision? Its not charity. They know a lot of pvp'ers have been level 50 for months and they are getting bored. Ranked warzones is what kept many of them subscribed and now thats out. It was either lose 100k subscribers or let them play for free so they don't cancel.

what GW2 doesnt charge you in subscription fees, theyll make up for in other areas. seriously, cross 3 server pvp? that costs money, and youre going to be the one paying for it

The point is even if you take a very low number like say 200k and multiply that by $14.99, you come up with just shy of $3 Million. Big company or not, that's a large chunk of cash. The fact that they're willing to essentially write that off in a month (or later due to some people paying multiple months), is a big deal.

To each of us it's not large but certainly a large impact on their bottom line and it would be nice to think of it when people scoff at what they consider a paltry offer...
If your think EA/BW are giving people free 30 days subs our to the kindness of their hearts, or just a random act of graciousness, you are a fool. The free 30 days is a damage control ploy. 1.2 is a complete disaster. Most players are unhappy with it and not all of it made it live. The free sub time is a damage control tool, as well as a premise to what lies ahead. SWTOR will be free to play by the end of the year. I promise you.

Theyre giving a full month because tons of people are quitting and they are trying anything to get them to stay. It doesn't seem to be working, as even more people are quitting post 1.2 patch.

Bioware/SWTOR is in panic mode now.
