Trying (and failing) to be objective here...
Blizzard's freebies were compensations for downtime.
BioWare's free day/month promotion is an attempt to save a sinking ship after one bad PR move after another.
This is what I thought after seeing the free 30 day message, and it was reinforced after they expanded the scope of the free 30 days. They're padding their subscription count for another 30 days.

This isn't out of love for customers. Other actions they've taken (or not taken) prove they don't give two shi... shakes about us. The 1 day may be to stifle complaints about the extra day of downtime. (When we should really be complaining about their abysmal quality practices.) The 30 days is padding numbers for reporting to shareholders.

And yes, I got plenty of free time on WoW in the 6+ years I played. Compensation for unplanned downtime.

I've got to say I was really impressed by this, this month I was going to be 8 days without playing as it's a 5week month and dont get paid on time but then they gave us a week so I was only going to be down a day.. then they give us an extra day! Perfect!

you wouldn't see blizzard do this,
Wrong. Blizzard has on several occasions gave players free game time when they had server down extended times.

Blizzard usually gave 3 days of free time for a simple 3 hour extended maintenance.

TBC, servers were down for maintenance for 8+ hours every single week and sometimes twice per week. Almost always a minimum of 8 hours. Not once was I compensated for this down time...which more often than not lasted until 6-7pm.

Wrong, Every one got the following.
12/12/08 N/A One Day Credit
11/8/08 N/A Three Day Credit

This happened around sunwell I believe.

Other days,
12/26/09 N/A One Day Credit
7/20/09 N/A One Day Credit
5/17/09 N/A One Day Credit

This account opened in 3/2007. My original account is locked atm.
Another account of mine had the following..

12/21/08 N/A One Day Credit
12/18/08 N/A Three Day Credit

Also there was a massive server overhaul that took 2 or 3 days, i forget, but we were compensated for that as well. This was for the TBC release.

By "see blizzard do this," you mean hype a patch update over the course of a month, have it implemented for barely a day then push out another minor patch the next day that reverts your over-hyped patch, then take the servers down to make a NEW patch with no notes and more changes than just putting every thing 1.2 did back in place.

yes, we have and will never see Blizzard do this.

BS. That has never happened. I played for 6 years.
Ganking leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to pvp.
The Swtor forum attracts trolls because the forums are more fun than raiding dragon soul.
Complaining is the new meta game.
