The Real Reason for the Free 30 Days!

Why would they give you a free month AFTER they have launched 1.2?

Wouldn't it make more sense to give people a free month in anticipation of 1.2? Keep people playing long enough so that they can snare them with 1.2?

It's more logical that the free 30 days is exactly as they said it was, a thank you gift for supporting them. And the discount for SW:TOR on Origin was so that people are encouraged to play SW:TOR with 1.2. Eve Online has done this on Steam where after a huge update they then sell the game at a discount. Numerous games like Terraria and Space Pirates and Zombies have also had prices slashed after a huge update.

PvPers really think too highly of themselves. Wouldn't the brand new warzone be enough to appease you?

When soe got hacked and everyones acct got messed with, soe gave everyone 45 free days of game play for dcuo and perhaps other games as well I don't know of. Fact

But if you were hanging on for ranked warzones and didn't get it... boom, big likelihood of cancellation.

If you aren't level 50, not having ranked warzones meant nothing to you. And if you have been playing since launch and still don't have a level 50, ranked warzones are probably not even in your future anyway.

Now, should they have given it to anyone that has the Founder title and still has an active account? Yes. But, were they scrambling and trying to stave off a host of cancellations as a result of pulling rwz's at the last minute... yes again!

It is mainly so that they can hide all the cancellations for this month and blame it on normal attrition next month because everyone finished all the new content and they will resub with the next big patch. You can't just tell stock holders that you had thousands of people unsub the day after you "improved" the game.
Dear BW,
Please nerf paper and buff rock. Scissors is fine as is.
Signed, Rock.

This selective 30 days gift really did upset me and made me feel inferior
I am not level 50 because I play at most 7 hours per week (I am a full time working mom), and I have played since pre-order. I have two characters of 30 and 35, and , to be sure, I will continue paying subscription to bring them to at least lvl 50.
The people who don't like the game will leave anyway, with free 30 days or without.

To those who don't remember in their life which MMO offered an entire free month. Actually on WOW i had more than 30 days free (around 2 months free).

On high pop servers, queuing time was very long about 2 hours (on peek hours) and it took them more than 3 months too solve this problem (then they implemented 2nd generation servers in which you could transfer chars from high pop servers) so they offered many free days for that. TO that, patch lauches were awfull, sometimes you couldn't play for half week and there were BUGS (who told you that the hakkar bug killed whole ogrimmar during days?) and these bugs as mentionnent in the example prevented us to play so they GAVE additionnal days.

In Rift, I had up to 20 days free coz their game was buggy and chars accidentaly deleted coz of their servers.

Well Aion nothing to say now the game is entirely free lol .

In mmos, giving free play time after lauch because of instability of content is something that happens a lot. (For that you need to play at lauch ...)

People complain without remembering, remember and that was not better with others. I don't care about TOR i just want to play a game which is enjoyable and that has constant content added not like wow (1/2 Op for 1 year and no new WZs). Just be a little objective and you will see that's not that bad.

I know, we are all angry because they announced that there will be no RWZs but let's dissociate anger and deception, this patch is not disappointing, look close mecanism are much more smarter than they were before.

BioWare tries to do something nice, and all the pathetic cynics and naysayers creep out of the shadows to spew their brand of hate onto the celebration. Take a look at yourselves in the mirror. Take a good, hard look at yourselves and see how sad you all are.
Good will always triumph because Evil is lazy.

True...wasnt just DCUO... EQ, EQ2, basically all of SOE's games got a free 45 day to active players, But ther service was down for like 15 days, not just for some but totally down for everyone. SWTOR isnt down for everyone, so why hand out 30 days free to everyone?

Anyone who thinks they gave away a free month for any reason other than trying to retain as many subs as possible is delusional.

Is it for one specific reason? Probably not.

But make no mistake, they are at least concerned enough about the potential loss of subs over the short term that it was deemed better to forgo a months worth of revenue than take the risk of permanent sub losses.

Edit to Add: Just because the free month is all about retaining subs doesn't make it bad, in fact it shows that EA / Bioware is still committed to making SWTOR a success.

Whether they can do so remains to be seen, but at least they feel confident enough about the future to give up a months revenue in return for a chance at doing so.
