They lost any respect the moment they accepted a buyout from EA. What you have now is just a branding name EA, it no longer the bioware you considered great. Infact most of the developers and programmers that made the old bioware titles such as Boulders gate 1 and 2, icewind dale, Neverwinter nights (remake), and DA:O, have all quit, stating "they did not like the direction the studio was heading".

Let me make a prediction

Eve online will still be going on strong.
Long after WoW / WoW 2 / SWTOR and Mass effect online die out of old age.

Yes let's give everybody the ability to do anything and make a game where every encounter from the lowest direwolf to the largest raid boss boils down to exactly the same strategy.

Ping pong aggro and pray one of the special snowflakes in my group equipped a healing spell from the huge selection of 8 abilities that they can choose from on their bar.

Always wanted to play a game where everybody could do anything anybody else could do and nobody was ultimately responsible for anything.

I predict great things.

After all, we have so many examples of prior games that abandoned the trinity and had huge success.
Stop exploding you cowards!

You don't accept that Bioware runs Warhammer Online (or that they ran it for 20 months before SWTOR went Live)............ although you've never actually said who does currently run Warhammer Online in your mind.

So I've no idea what you're doing in this thread.
Real Star Wars space combat please, not Star Wars Fox! Maybe some PvP and flight too?

Still worth playing though,

But a monthly sub,.......hmmmmmmm

For what is fast becoming a single player Game,..........hmmmmmmmm

Bioware are already giving away 30 days free game time,.........hmmmmmmm

We gotta be honest with ourselves,

It aint looking good.

Will the world end this year aswell my dear prophet?

Diablo 3 is not going to kill anything even if it is a mmo it doesnt have raid/dungeon option, and at his release as far as i know the arenas arent going to be ready (no sure but i think i have read it somewhere). As for GW2 huge hype, i played the beta, cant say the game is good and wont say that i didnt pre-ordered it because i did, but lets be honest, you know that a lot of ppl will whine about it especialy with some things that i cant rly cant talk due to the NDA, major point anyway is, its a f2p game so ppl can play both.

BW gives 30 free day to award its players; blizz gives a beta access to MoP (a rly poor expantion, i tryed it for 1h and it bored me), a copy of D3 and a flying mount with wierd looking wings... humm that sounds to me much more of a desperate move.

Regarding your opinion about the single player game... well never tryed to do a OPS or a HM alone, but if is turning a single player game then i rly should try it

Yeah, seemingly as least some of them.

I wish they weren't.

Fixed that for ya. :P

EVE is a niche game that appeals to a very specific type of player and they have all the subs their ever gonna get. Most games that have come out in the last several years aren't trying to be EVE, they're trying to be WoW. A casual game that appeals to a much larger audience than what EVE is aiming for.

Basic economics? Every business is out to maximize profits. They also don't have unlimited capital. So they need to put their capital towards projects that will make them the most amount of money. When you spend big, you're expected to earn big.

Two different scenarios:

Person A spends 1000 dollars ofthe company's money and make 100,000 in profit.

Person B spends 10,000 dollars of the company's money and makes 200,000 in profit.

Person B clearly made more money...but Person A is going to be the next VP with a corner office, because he knows how to maximize investments and turn a little into a lot. Business isn't about making money...it's about making profit. Projects can make money and still be deemed failures, because the opportunity cost is simply too high...and the more you spend, the higher that opportunity cost is.

There's a reason they're giving away free time, trials and basically scrambling like they're being shot at right now in spite of the fact that the game is clearly making money. It's because it isn't making enough money. Expectations were extremely high for this game...not just from the fans, but from the suits and investors. People were sitting around really believing that the game would burst out of the gate and be right up there with WoW. It's not, and the pressure to get it there must be enormous.

Additionally, there's the LA factor to consider. Given the huge debacle that was SWG from start to finish, LA was really looking at this game to wipe away the stink from that failure...but instead, it's only further contributing to the perception that SW games are just not that good. LA wanted a home run here, and what they got was a ground ball to second.

All in all, there really can't be any doubt that the higher ups and investors are not satisfied with the current state of the game's profits. And it doesn't seem like marketing or the devs can get their acts together in a way that's going to offer them any relief whatsoever.
