These are questions you cannot 'realtime' answer. You just see '20 people in Fleet' and think that's your whole side or even your whole server. That's HALF a side, on a server in one zone at 2 pm EST on a Tuesday.. the first day people go back to work after a Easter holiday in the U.S.
Those are all the same ?'s I've asked Shrikestalker. The thing is all the other zones have even less people. I have a toon at all the lower lvl zones, starting zone usually has 3- 10 people, the 2nd zone(lvl 1-18) is usually the most populated, 30 on avg. after that it drops again, typically any zone will avg 10 people if we're lucky. I've also talked to all the imps who have rerolled on our side, and its even worst on that side of the faction.
I'm also logged on all day from 10 am to 3 am. and the only peak time we have is about 2 hours. Time enough to play with the same 8 people against the same opposite 8. Also Lium has never had more then 7 people there at one time, which is a pretty good indicator ofhow many 50's are around.
I'm not complaining to just complain. I have a valid point. I've been on this server almost since release time and its population and active players have dropped drasticaly, shich was never that high to begin with.
Also if you look at all the servers, they mostly display light pop status. maybe 3 servers even have a regular population. And I've only seen 2 servers ever go into high or full pop. The harbinger and Fat Man.
TheScholar Legacy
- 50 Vanguard - 50 Shadow - 50 Gunslinger (Soresu)
- 41 Powertech - 35 Juggernaut (The Harbinger)
- 32 Merc - 31 Marauder - 30 Assassin - 26 Jugg (Warriors of the Shadow)

So there's been a clear answer now, Bioware has no plans to merge servers:

Quote:
There is a lot of debate in the community about server population. Any insight on how you guys feel about the population distribution?

JO: We always take feedback from the community and from all kinds of different sources like our telemetry metrics, and take it very seriously. When we hear that from the community, we are listening. We have the plan to allow for character transfers in the future. The legacy system actually is another reason why character transfer is becoming more important. It is one of our biggest priorities right now; that and group finder are essentially are biggest priorities coming in the near future after Update 1.2.

Is there any discussion of merging servers or adding incentives to move players to low pop servers?

JO: No, we’re not going to. Merging servers is not something we are looking at. We have a very healthy game right now, so that is not something we are looking at in the near future. We're always going to look at ways to make sure a server is healthy. There are a whole bunch of different ways you can do that. We're discussing them. We want to make sure players feel like there are enough players on their server to play with.

I'm not sure how having under 150 Republic players online on the entire server at peak times can be considered healthy. More and more people are leaving or quitting from my server, what I want to know is, how is this going to be fixed? When transfers come, either a load of people are going to transfer to my server (why would they potentially condemn themselves though? It's dead), or some of the few remaining people will transfer off, only exacerbating the problem.

I'm not bothered how server populations are or aren't doing, but more wanting a clarification on what exactly the plans are to help servers like mine (Niman). The answer given was a non answer "There a whole bunch of different ways you can do that." - Like what, exactly? I would love to know what the plans are. I ask this because my friends and I have put a lot of time into our characters on our server, we don't want to abandon them, so we've been waiting, hoping for news. This has crushed my hope.

If the transfers don't cost, then it's not too bad, but it will still lead to a lot of servers getting a whole lot quieter. If they do cost, then likely it is something we won't be able to do - it's more likely my friends will just give up playing than have to pay to move to another server.

What hope can we have now? I like this game, I want to be able to enjoy it, but it seems Bioware really don't want to make that easy. :/

I cannot believe there won't be server merges. How can the say this game is healthy. They should come play on the deadweight some time. 1.2 should have been delayed so resources could go toward correcting this problem. This is pretty upsetting.

Why are people so dumb as to think you couldn't find out how many people are on the server when you are playing.

WHen you say stupid things like

"You cant answer how many people are on fleet/ship/wz/newb planets"

I have to call BS. A 5 year old could go into the /who tool and figure that out.

it doesnt take a rocket scientist to do a /who 1-5, /who 6-10 /who etc and when you get to 50 you break it out by class with /who 50 ***

Watch I'll do it right now, takes maybe 10 minutes.

I don't even have to do that on our realm. 1-20 21-30 31-40 41-49 and 50. There's not been over 100 50s online on the Republic in weeks on Niman :/

You are assuming the who tool shows ALL the players, which you have no idea whether it does or not.

Why is it so hard for people to grasp that Bioware knows the numbers and you don't?

Server mergers won't come until after they give server transfers a try. Server merges are ALWAYS a last ditch effort, after all else fails. Have you folks actually been around a game that did merges? If you have, then you would know what a huge task it is. Even if Bioware started to plan for merges now, it would be several months before it could be implemented.

This is hilarious.

Guess what? The Fatman just got a longer que.
Meanwhile, in Tera general chat -

"The sad thing is, arguing with fanbois on the forums was more entertaining than their 300 million dollar single player MMO from 2008"

That interview says 1.3 for server transfers. That would be July at the earliest. Completely unnacceptable, if this patch tomorrow doesn't help improve things there is no way I make it that long. Reroll not an option for me .
