This.

Micro-transactions on top of a $14.99 subscription that yields nothing?

Good bye.

No, they've specifically stated that they do not plan to adopt the model, ever. The comment was made via Twitter when the Collector's Edition was launched and people foolishly believed that the CE store was going to be MT-based.

Furthermore, he was alluding to his/her own conspiracy theory that Bioware is intentionally holding back features in order to sell them in a cash shop that has no basis whatsoever.

There isn't any doubt that ANY mmo made today is going to be discussed in terms of a cash shop at some point as subs dwindle, even in the planning stages. That's only smart business planning so it is quite possible that a 'boss' wasn't on the same page as far as what info to let out in some interview that hasn't been linked for perusal and what was just for kicking around as ideas in meetings.

Actually there are many cases where a company has someone who has some initials after their names speaking about something and they didn't know exactly what they were talking about and it later had to be reclarified.
Pretty sure the title of this thread is "Microtransactions Shop for SWTOR: confirmed or not?", but silly me for attempting to apply reading comprehension on the internet.

Since you obviously have either infinite wisdom or ESP, do you happen to know where Jimmy Hoffa is and if Oswald acted alone too?

It'll happen- all the whining about 'this needs to have the features WoW has nao' will get them to cave and put it in.

"Microtransactions" is a loaded word, and it has nothing to do with paid services such as character transfers and the like (even if that was the OP's intended meaning).

I'm sure that services like character transfers and name changes will be real-money transactions.
Mainly to gate in some way so people don't go server hopping, assuming new names whenever the old
one got marked by the community in some way for bad behavior etc.

The best way to prevent that is to go where it hurts, and that is the wallet.

But these things, to me, are not "cash shop" items. These are customer services
on another level.
"cash shop" items to me would be minipets or speeders, special orange item sets (without any mods in it),
cosmetic stuff only. While I'd rather see no such shop in TOR, I could learn to tolerate it.

But pay-to-win stuff would be a sure way to lose a lot of subscriptions, including mine.

I thought the Legacy system is proof that pay to win won't be in the game.

Things like xp boosts will be in the Legacy system, available to all. Things like race unlocks, in the Legacy system itself.

Now if you are talking about vanity pets and mounts, it is almost guaranteed to happen. Frankly I a more likely to pity people who are willing to spend US$25 for a mount than to be jealous of them.

I guess my ESP comes from reading not just the title of the thread, but the OP's actual post:

Please if possible try to steer away from the evil or virtues of cashshop or whether they'll result in a ragequit apocalypse.

I would really like to know if somewhere at some point there has been reliable word (which can be quoted) from on high whether this was something they were planning to implement or not. Up until now I've failed to find anything from them on the subject, which to me translates into "we're keeping all our options open."

The reason I ask is my suspicion that simple and highly desirable features are kept from the game because they are candidates for a cash shop - things like name changes, transfers and character customization.
I don't know anything about Hoffa or Oswald; he/she didn't mention fears, suspicions or questions regarding them, sorry.

speaking for myself only - if they add micro transactions to this game it will guarantee that I quit for good, I refuse to support games that have them.

Well, if they do create one, I certainly hope it's just gear that looks cool, like Social Items. If the best gear in the game is Microtransaction gear, that could cause a world of problems.
