When will there be a "SERVER MERGE?"

Making the rounds for those who haven't had an opportunity to check the official response posts yet ...

James Ohlen's response to the character transfer question from PAX East:
"That is one of our #1 priorities right now. I walk into our programmer’s office and ask them everyday if we can get that feature out faster. So yes, it is coming soon. We need to make sure when you xfer over that it comes with everything like legacy, guild and all that stuff. It is not as easy as it might seem."
Can we please just have our pre-KotFE SWTOR MMORPG back?

I hope that the people who want to transfer to the Pacific servers aren't the only ones to get the free transfer, while everyone else has to pay. The amount of people pissed could become legend in MMO history. lol

This is good news to me xfer does sound like it could solve alot of issues as i have just recently hit 50 i have found myself think hmm what is there to do now... Very few people are interested in HM and well i dont find pvp that much fun.

So the whole server merging/xfer does sound appealing as there just isnt enough players online at one time in order to have a booming economy in the AH or people actually going HM and allowing more and more people to see content that end game should offer...

As mentioned above i have recently hit 50 and i would like to see some of the content available but as stated i am currently on what seems a very low pop server and found myself going hmmms /afk /crew skills oh wait there all maxed oh well log off. If i do find the energy to continue playing i create an alt ive got a max sith warrior dps and thought well lets make a jedi just to give me something to do.

I only really have one question to regards of the whole xfer/merge i take it your gonna charge us to move to a more populated server or is there gonna be if you have a "founder title" you get a free one? something like this to reward the players who stuck by while the changes were happining and not run off saying this is this and that blah blah blah and feed more trolls...

If something has been posted previously about this and ive missed it i apologise.

Server merges are a lot of work, and generally create a lot of aggravation for players. They'll do them if they have to, but it's better for everyone if they can find a better solution.

We have population issues, but a great deal of that is because everyone is so spread out. Fleet might only have 50-80 people, but how many does Ilum have? Corellia? Daily Planets? Warzones? Flashpoints? Just going by fleet populations is a terrible idea because, theoretically, most players aren't just hanging around. And if they aren't doing something on their main, they might be leveling an alt.

Not saying that there isn't an issue, just that a LOT of the arguments I've been seeing have been really, really bad. At prime time for WoW in Wrath, Dalaran usually had under 200 people in it. And it was the staging point for both factions. But the game was definitely healthy.

And remember that server merges would actually be difficult and, possibly, more headaches than we want. There are a lot of small details we tend not to think about. Like how to handle legacy, character, and guild names. How do you handle characters with legacies on both servers? What happens if they have 6 characters on both servers?

There are a LOT of these smaller questions, to accompany the much bigger (often technical) questions. It's disingenuous to pretend like this is a simple matter, and it doesn't do the argument any justice to ignore that.

I'm sure most agree with you, it's not an easy thing to solve. The problem most people have is that it's an issue that would have been better tackled pior to launch. Not months into the games life.

I'm sure there's a good reason for it not being in at launch, but at the moment we can only speculate.

they need to merge serves badly, im on prophecy of the 5 and it is ridiculous how small the population is getting, we have 60-90 ppl on the fleet at peek times, there should be several hundred, it makes it harder to find groups, queue wz, find crafters and recruit for my guild

1.2 will bring mass server merges.

I play on Khoonda Militia right now just because I have a crappy computer right now (but not for much longer excitedley) and it can't handle the more populated servers. I'm hoping that once I've got everything on my end squared away, I can move my 2 characters (all I have right now) to a Higher Populated PvP server, because I've been dying to try PvP.

But until they anounce the transfers are ready I'm content to bear it. I wont grin and bear it but I'll bear it nontheless.

If this is how he manages one of his "#1 priorities" then I'm glad I quit when I did.

Yeah and with that quote, he basically said server merges were not going to happen, pretty much ever.

You will either get character transfer or reroll. No server merges. I think he said "That thing which will not be named which is a last resort.

Sound to me like they have absolutely no plans on merges, because it would make the game look bad to have merges this close to launch.
