When will there be a "SERVER MERGE?"

This may seem trivial to some. But this is my Starwars Playtime this is my story and immersion style. If that is taken away from me.

That is the only thing that would stab me in the back.
You would rather play on empty servers with a name you like and no one to see it, than play with other people with a second choice of your name and thousands of people who can see it?

I think the focus should be playability here. Empty MMO's aren't MMO's at all. That needs to be fixed. Regardless of names. I hate to say it, but it's a numbers game. When mergers happen (and believe me, they're going to happen sooner or later), you're always going to upset some people. So you upset the smallest demographic, which in this case, I'm sorry to say, are those like yourself, who are protective over their character names.

Sad but true I'm afraid.

Setup

Time: 7pm-9pm
Day: Wednesday
Server: The Ravager
Side: Republic

Player Population

Level 01-25 = 28-36 players
Level 26-49 = 23-30 players
Level 50 = 48-67 players

Now, that gives us the following high and low point of the population as:

28+23+48 = 99 low
36+30+67 = 133 high

I don't know about you, but a highpoint of 133 TOTAL republic players for peak time, on a Low/Standard population server is abysmal. There's nothing massive about that number. That's enough players for a single Everquest raid, and that's cutting it fine (which also came out 12 years ago).

They added too many servers in the first 2 days of release. They doubled the number of servers. DOUBLED. Then when 40% of your players leave after the free month is up (which is fairly normal), you're left with lots of empty servers.

The key is to recover quickly, WaR did it, RIFT did it, TOR is not doing it.

I have since re-rolled on ToFN (Tomb of Freedon Nadd), which was on heavy at 9pm on Wednesday. Upon reaching Korriban, there were 103 people just on that planet. Doing a search of 'Quesh' in /who (where my alt is currently levelling, alone, at any time of day on The Ravager) revealed that there were 24 people there... Now that's an MMO. Not being the only person on a planet.

I'm sad to leave my toons and legacy behind, but it had to be done, and I don't regret it.

The only real issue now is that as more people continue to migrate we're going to see a Tunisia Libya crisis situation occurring. Queues to log in at all times of the evening and weekends.

Players can't organise these re-rolls. The government (i.e., BW) needs to get off their fat ar$$es, and do something about it.

My advice: Re-roll on the high pop server, you'll realise how much more fun it is having active chat going on, people running around everywhere... You know, playing an MMO.

Im on The exiles crystal, one of the lowest populated servers, and i hate it. Theres like 10 people MAX at fleet during peak times and for me its killing the interest in this game. For god's sake i cant even get a group for flashpoints and the pvp queue are way too loooong. Rerolling because of a low populated server is ridiculous and i'm not doing that.

My subscription will end tomorrow and i will not resub untill theres a character transfer dealio. I might not even come back, but we'll see.. Hope they realise that they are loosing ALOT of players because of this and that they add this feature soon.

Is a anyone going to PAX and can actually ask someone from Bioware? They can't, I would hope, follow the policy with this thread and actually ignore a customer stood in front of them talking to them!

Also someone up above mentioned having written to their game site of choice. I think this is a FANTASTIC idea. Bioware are clearly happy to ignore any of their paying customers posting on the forums about this but they will be looking for press and promotion as soon as 1.2 hits.

Wouldn't it be lovely if enough people had contacted Massively (for example) that they asked in their 1.2 interview, 'What about the low pop Bioware? We've had a bunch of people write to us!'

(Yes, yes some of you are happy and just here to try and convince us that because your server is fine or you were happy to give up everything you had played for - well we should just reroll. If it bothers you so much that others are unhappy, feel free to take the same route and write to Massively (etc) and tell them that you are happy.)

I share your amazement that the devs haven't said ANYTHING about this.
I am mad at all the attendees of the Summit for not asking the question as well. (One woman sort of did, but her question was more about faction imbalance and the "REPUBLIC being a ghost town." Their answer was something like "we're hoping Legacy will fix imbalance."

This tells me NOTHING about their views on server populations as a whole.

I blame the summit on the fact that most of the big guilds represented probably make their homes in the high-pop servers. The attendees there are not an accurate cross-section of the player base.

I fear this will be the same case at PAX but hopefully some brave questioner will prove me wrong.

The Maw wasn't so bad but now it's low pop.

I think too many people are going Fatman from the Maw so our server is doomed.

To be honest I see the same PVP'ers every night. The names rarely change.

Que was so long last night that when it did finally pop, I was too tired and logged out.

Well unfortunately I don't think we will see anything about this in this weeks community question and answer, as it is reserved for further 1.2 Q&A's.

I am very curious how BW plans on approaching this.

Matter of fact it does, number of people idle can lead to interesting chat. Chat is very much an important part of the game as we can't be doing stuff 100% of the time. No chat means no community which equates to dead server.

I need about tree fitty.
