(WTB API plox. I know it was mentioned in a Q&A or guild summit or something but )
Oh I'm sure he would LOVE getting dozens of text messages a night hahahah.

But yes, we need Bioware to step it up because right now the only competition seems to be within a server only. I say that because my guild knows exactly where other guilds are in terms of progression, and if they try to lie is too obvious since they don't have anyone with a single piece of loot off of that existing boss. As for across different servers... we need Bioware to do something and I am sure it wouldn't be hard to do.

Inzi, you're a genius... but WHAT IF....

Verizon decides to be douchey and not send my text right away and hold it in their network for an hour first and someone beats me?!

So ... WHAT IF we email our screenshot of ourself, in front of our computer, with the google UTC time overlayed onto the Star Wars UI with the codex entry while still having every member of your raid visable with their guild tag showing and readable while having the loot box open and you must be holding a clock in your hands showing your local time and it doesn't count without having the date on it, not forgetting a signed copy of your combat log promising you didn't alter it ... and we should include all the BW dev's emails in the email blast everytime we do this so they can independently verify the kills for us until they decide to assist the community with an API. Sounds easy enough.

Sigh.. I just want an API.

Both could take equally as long.

You forgot that the combat log needs to be notarized and we need to include a birth certificate with our character's name on it.

Edit: On a serious note, I brought up streams earlier. Is there a way to easily "doctor" streams to make those not a good source of verification?

Streams are reliable depending on the site. Sites such as Twitch.tv catalog streams so they can be accessed by viewers afterward and time/date stamp them.

It's a reasonable alternative assuming you have people who want to stream their raids, their failures, their successes, and their nerd screams =P

Thanks again for all the great feedback so far guys.

Its been brought up that combat logs can be faked but in thinking about it this is really only a problem if it is one person uploading them for verification. Requiring more than one person to upload them would seriously hamper trolls abilities to create fake kills. It wouldn't be impossible but it would make it more time consuming.

So just throwing this idea out there, curious to hear what you guys think. Especially if you think it will be to cumbersome.

To start off creating a kill it would be very similar to how it is now, this gets a kill created but it is 'un-verified'. At this point, to become a 'verified' kill combat logs need to be uploaded by X members of the guild. I'm already working on a system that will let you associate people with your guild, so its not like anyone could upload the validation logs, only members that you specify as being in your guild.

At this point the number of combat logs required could be anywhere from a couple to a half dozen. I would be inclined to lean towards the low end since you don't gain a whole lot by requiring a ton of logs.

This would more or less replace the current confirm/dispute system unless you can think of a way those would still be useful.

A second question I had for you guys was for account names. Right now the name you pick has to be unique, but I could remove that restriction. It is possible for people to have the same name (but on different servers) so I could see removing this restriction as helpful.

Would this be confusing? Should something else be added to help distinguish members (perhaps server? username@server)?

To be completely honest, it would take less than 5 minutes to edit 10 people in the guild's combat logs to have a kill days earlier than the actual kill. I really don't think that's any better of a system. All you would have to do is a find & replace.

As for the account names, with people already claiming "so & so isn't really me," I don't think being able to have multiple accounts with the same name helps people be held more accountable. I like the @servername part.

I don't stream mic for these reasons >> Plus, when you stream sounds, anybody watching starts blaming fails on the chick in the raid

I'm not disputing that it would be easy to doctor the combat logs. What i'm wondering is that would having to make 2-6 separate doctored combat logs, each uploaded by a different account be enough to keep the trolls out?
