In SWTOR we can't even tell who the third wheels are and who's full of shyte let alone what's killing people and what needs to be worked on. It's safe to say geared people are OK and earnt it somehow, but believe it or not, some people do get carried and don't play to their character's full potential and still get geared up. But with nothing else to go by, we can only assume it was the geared players who were contributing the most, we can't tell. So it makes taking someone who's undergeared seem like the bigger risk. And it snowballs. Geared people have opportunities to get more geared/do more in the game while undergeared people are left stranded.
The hilarious thing about your post is that it's taken like 4 months of these forums and 3 pages of this thread for someone to actually say something sensible on the pro-meter side. I've only ever thought about damage meters as being tools for exclusion because that's the only way people talk about them (and the only way I ever encountered them in WoW).

You make an excellent point about using them to figure out what's killing the team and what needs to be done to avoid it next time.

No, that'll only work if you're a better theorycrafter than both the people you're sending the log to and the people who make the parsers...

That would have to be the dumbest thing a group leader could ever tell someone.

As for doing an OPs, if the person that put it together can't tell who is bad by the first boss, they themselves are bad and need to pass leadership to someone else
Thats ok cause no one would ask you that, your just overreacting and thinking of the worst possible circumstance. This would be for raiding

Assuming you are able to edit them easily.

Ah so the people too lazy to look up their logs complain about having to play with lazy people.

this is why the whole argument of meters / combat logs is wasted on the forums cause none of u get it.

its not about dps, you only start to look at the dps when u are wiping at 2-3% and hitting enrage timers.

the point of the combat log is to see while wiping *** IS WIPING YOU!!

its just clear to me and anyone else who understand WHY we need them, its just a shame the trolls are misconstruing the real reason we need them.

seems to me none of u even see the difference between dps meters and combat logs. they are used to examine 2 different parts of the teams performance

Third party parsers will eventually communicate with each other for real-time group parsing.

That is in no way impossible.
