I used to fence in the university team. We wore Kevlar armor. Looks like cloth, can take pretty much any shape you want, protects against blunt impact and sharp edge penetration ("bullet proof"). 20th century technology.

The imagined technology in SW:TOR is many, many centuries in advance of our own. I'd assume that society has fabrics like Kevlar, only better, with say limited energy deflection. So what's stopping the designers? Lore? Sure, all BH look like Boba Fett... that makes sense... not.

Really, is it so hard to imagine something less bulky and plain ugly than pretty much all armor? My BM geared BH looks like a giant bug (helmet) with a baby carrier strapped to its belly. Not that the lower level gear is better: pretty much all identical looking, just different colors. Be still my heart...
