The problem, as has been said, is you don't get a proper chance to get a feel for your AC until you've been playing for a considerable amount of time.

Perhaps a one time only option to change at level 25 then, as by then you've got to test out the AC.

Or like I said Faction Change.
surely the problem with that is, when you get your one time change. you change. and a couple of levels later you wish you never changed at all. you will be in the same boat different AC. a one off change wouldn't really help.

allowing republic and empire toons into the same guild would sort this out as you can play alh ACS if you play all 8 toons differently. but this would only start a new argument with RP'ers

Hum... I still think it is too complex. Impossible, no, but complex. Abilities would have to be replaced for one another, what if I did not train all abilities? Will I have all the new abilities when changing AC? What about my gear? Will my double lightsaber be converted into a single one? Will my defense mods be converted into crit mods? Will my red taris armor set (assassin quest rewards) be converted into the white/blue sorcerer set?

I think BW should simple make all ACs choose-able from the beginning, and be done with this People would not ask for a class change then...

Well if you'd got to level 25, didn't like your AC and so used your one time only AC Change and then after a few levels didn't like that AC, I think at that point you'd want to roll a completely different class anyway.

Faction Change would be easy enough. Level up the opposite faction, see the other content and then once at top level pay to change over and join your main character. It'd certainly make Bioware happy because people would be playing for longer, seeing more of the content they created and paying them extra for the faction change service.

Well it'd be the same as Respeccing in WoW and other MMO's that do Dual-Spec. You would have to acquire new gear for your new AC, for example a Orit Warrior can't dual weild two-handed weapons but a Fury Warrior can, and so when respeccing they would have to switch their weapons and gear around.
As for all the AC specific abilities, you'd have to buy the ones you hadn't learned once you respecced. Which would be a good Credit Sink for the game.

the faction change as you describe it is kinda something that might work. my only worry with that is wouldn't it lead to even bigger pop imbalance. i mean all the vibes i get is that BW are hoping enough of us have both republic and empire toons in the end that pop imbalance is no longer a problem

sick of huttball jump on your republic toon

OP paraphrased: I used to think AC respecs should not be allowed, but now I want to do it, so it should be.
I drop knowledge, you drop the huttball.

There will always be an imbalance between the factions though, it's extremely difficult for any game to keep a decent balance. Even WoW has major faction balance issues on servers. Just something that comes with creating an MMO unfortunately. They gotta work on making the Republic look really cool and appealing. Currently it's just the cool thing to be the bad guy.

i don't disagree. i just think a faction change might make it worse

Possibly. Or it could help, if top level Imperial players decided to faction change over to the Republic for instance, which I do know of a few players who would do.

Also I just want to add I'm really glad we're getting a proper discussion going about how both camps could be satisfied with different possibilities, rather than just the "No you're wrong!" arguments each of us were coming out with.
