Why would a company go out of it's way to create good/great content and progress when these fans will accept the lowest form of it with the highest gratitude. That isn't good.
The fact that anyone has to invent a slur to represent the other side of the debate is clearly an indication as to what type of people come to this private fan based forum and spam negativity. I doubt anyone who uses slurs is interested in building a better game. Its a riot, started by business professionals to impact a new mmo. In my "not so" humble opinion.

Exactly what I thought too, but I do agree with him as far as our expectations being too high. Rift was my game before this, so I am very disappointed in TOR. Rift is a great example of what a smaller market MMO is capable of, and to me, an even better example of knowing the audience, responding quickly, and showing dedication to their suscribers and what they clamor for.

Problem for me is that they have failed to live up to expectations despite a 300m budget. Released to soon? Definitely. Everyone knows that. It's EA's fault too. Nevertheless, it's the heads at Bioware, not those of the execs at EA, that are going to roll as they continue to fail to live up to our exhaustive expectations. Again, I blame EA primarily for the problems, and not so much Bioware, but I also feel that we should continue to pile on the expectations, because the "next evolution" this game is not.

We will have to wait and see, but it appears very much like ArenaNet might actually deliver on Bioware's "next evolution" statement and make Guild Wars 2 free-to-play as well. F2P vs. $15/mo? F2P vs. $180/yr? Only the Star Wars license could convince me to recklessly dump money like that when I could play another game for free, and it's a good thing EA and Bioware have said license, because without it this game would be gone already, and it is their only hope for survival while they try to catch up with our vast and arguably unfair expectations.

"TORchan"....how very very apropos....but I blame BioWare for allowing it to happen as much as I blame the hate machine.
No one hates Star Wars as much as "Star Wars fans"

That goes for either side, because anyone who has anything negative to say, constructive or not, is met with a like slur. So by that standard, even anyone spamming positivity in a like fashion is just as much guilty of being uninterested in building a better game.

To be fair they didn't have Paul Barnett hyping it up well beyond any level of realistic expectation.

Still, it's Star Wars, and that brings its own baggage.

That's an interesting idea. In terms of constructive feedback to the devs, the extreme groups on both sides - those who love and hate the game - might be similar.

However, which group fosters a better community?

I don't think its professionals but there is definitely a "force" of folks who directly aim to destroy a game's culture. Its mostly lonely, angry video game nerds who disagree with the direction a game took.

They believe they know better and their voice will be heard somewhere. They can't tell anyone on the street. Who the hell would listen to them?
Who else has that much time on their hands? No one except those folks. Even if I wanted to troll a game and destroy its community I can't. I dont enough time in the day!

As soon as I read that, an image of Blizzard dressed up as Darth Vader pooped into my head saying -

lol, sorry

As much as I hate all the WoW refrences, this made me lol.

Interesting read, some valid points.....

but more importantly, one of my posts is listed on the forums "screenshot" - I feel special.
Complaining an internet forum is hostile is like complaining that the ocean is wet. The Obi-wan pic was funny though.
